Resumo: "In our kindergarten we care for 60 children between the age of 1 and 6 divided in four groups. Two of this group is a baby nursery group for 12 children between the age of 1 and 2. We understand education as a process, which concentrates on the children's overall development in their different ways of perception, thinking and behavior. We support the children in their development to become independent thinking, feeling and acting persons. To reach this goal we use the pedagogic approaches of Friedrich Fröbel. We work with special Fröbel-materials and Fröbel-methods. In the work with the children we prioritize on their intercultural education. To reach this focal point we realize topical projects from different countries, like a russian afternoon. Thus our children get to know different ways of living and traditions from different countries. To ensure an adequate education, developement and care we employ 8 nursery school teachers. Two of them have additional qualifications as Fröbelpedagogues.
o The small number of children and accordingly small team ensured a closed and familiar atmosphere in our kindergarten.
To support the education and learning process we have besides the regular group rooms also a crafts room, gymnastics room and a special theatre basement. In this pedagogical framework our children learn to live in and to respect nature and society, to express their opinion, how to solve conflicts and to accept each other.
The kindergarten ""Regenbogen"" is situated in the centre Nordhausen next to the Taschenberg. From the kindergarten you can easy arrive the centre of city by foot.
Nordhausen, with its 45, 000 inhabitans, is situated in the very North of Thuringia, close to both Saxony Anhalt and Lower Saxony. Nearby you also find the Harz mountains, a beloved area for excursions, climbing, trekking, bike riding and activity holidays. The Harz also houses Germany's second highest mountain, the Brocken.
The oldest source, in which Nordhausen is mentioned, can be traced back to the year of 927. The first industry, a spirits factory, settled in Nordhausen around 1500. The people of Nordhausen did not only experience an upswing in the economy. Huge parts of the city were damaged from several great fires (in 1540, 1686, 1710 and 1712).
With the concentration camp ""Mittelbau Dora"" situated nearby, where 60, 000 prisoners were forced to work and produce the V1- and V2 rockets between 1943 and 1945, Nordhausen was part of the history of the Second World War. Around 20, 000 convicts died in prisonment.
On the 3rd and 4th of April 1945, only a few weeks before the war would be over, 74% of the inner city was destroyed from the British Airforce, killing 8 800 people as well. Thereby, Nordhausen was one of the most damaged cities of the former German Democratic Republic (DDR).
Today Nordhausen is the industrial and cultural centre of Northern Thuringia:
Industrial mainly because of the excavator- production and the traditional spirits factory ""Nordbrand"". Culturally, Nordhausen offers theatre, a cinema, different museums, the concentration camp Mittelbau Dora and several other sights. Discos, nice and friendly pubs, restaurants, a city park, a shopping mall, bowling centres, an indoor swimming pool, our rope course and the climbing tower also contribute to the wide range of spare time offers."

The personal skills and interests for example arts, aesthetic, music, dancing and theatre, sports and mathematics, natural science can be yielded in the daily work. We are certain, that the kindergarten as an institution as well as the everyday work greatly benefits by the personal experience and cultural background of the volunteer. Also important are reliability, responsibility and teamwork just as the willingness to learn the German language or to extend the existing language skills. Furthermore we would wish us volunteers, who can also speak english as a foreign language to create english workshops for the children.

In case the minimum standard can not be fulfilled (basic knowledge of german language, furthermore ""acceptable"" age of volunteers), we inform the volunteers/ their delegation organisation about the reasons for their rejection.

Tarefas: "Work and Learning Possibilities
According to his/her interest and potential the young volunteer will be integrated step by step in all daily activities.
The curiosity of our children and open mindednes of our small team will make it easy to get intouch with us and to feel welcome in the project right from the beginning.
On this basis the volunteers will quickly get to know our way of care and education according to Friedrich Fröbel.
The ""Regenbogen Kindergarten"" offers the young volunteer the possibility, to broaden and to deepen their experience and knowledge together with the children and the pedagogical team.
Especially daily activities like singing, storyteling, handicrafts designing, cooperation with staff members and parent and developing projects support the learning and strengthening of German as a forreign language.
Our proven methods for intercultural learning and the various cultural backgrounds of the young volunteers are the basic conditions to create new intercultural projects to encourage the children to tolerance for and curiosity about different cultures and ways of life. By means of doing language animation in mother tongue, presentation of once own country and way of living, the volunteers are expected to extend our offers in intercultural education with personal projects.Developing intercultural activities we prioritize in our daily work with children.
Moreover that we maintain a cooperation with the nearby primary school Bertold Brecht. Our volunteers are expected to help our children with the preparation for school. To support the process the volunteers will accompany the children in the named school and practise school situations with in our prepared schoolroom.
In our kitchen the volunteers have the possibility to cook them meals especially from their country.
The volunteers will be integrated in our team and treated like a partner. During that teamwork they can deepen or broaden their social skills. In details that means, ther will be integrated in a group, work with this group together, communicate with this group. You have to learn to accept different decisions from other colleagues. And you have to learn to show initiative and to adopt responsibility.
As far as possible the volunteer will be included in the decision-making-processes.
The volunteers role
The special spatial and pedagogical frameworks of the ""Regenbogen Kindergarten"" offer the volunteer extensive initiatives for all kinds of tasks and activities.
The development and implementation of tasks based on the volunteers interests will be discussed by the volunteer and staff members together.
During the service the volunteer will work with one group of children most of the time, offering him/he the possibility to create short-termed projects with a limited number of children.
There is enough room to realize her/his own ideas, interests within this group. Furthermore her/his task is to help the nursery school teacher with the daily care of the children and to enrich the groupwork with own new ideas.
They can take a part in all daily activities, depeding or their interests.

Condições: "The working conditions in our project are related to the needs of our children. We will make sure that our volunteers will never be alone with a whole class. During the own workshops of the volunteers a teacher will support them or the class will be split.
The volunteers will live in a flat-sharing community with other European volunteers. Everyone will have his/her own room but they will share bathroom and kitchen. In the flat exist all necessary furniture and electrical equipments. We will provide bed clothes and towels. The volunteers have to clean the flat by themselves.
We don't plan to host underage volunteers.
To avoid or to work on homesickness we consciously incorporate the peer group of volunteers. We developed special rituals to facilitate the settle-in the project.
We use every contact with the flat-sharing community to ask about our new volunteers to intervene if necessary.
We think that the contact with other young people is as important as the contact with the other volunteers. So we buy our volunteers a special card for trains, which offers a discount on the tickets. This helps them to stay in personal contact with their new friends, even with them from the seminars organised by the National Agency.
All our volunteers take part in a private language training ""German as a foreign language"" . The volunteers get a individual language training based on their level of knowledge. The language course normally takes place once a week for 90 minutes.
During the first three month of the voluntary service the volunteers will get an insight into the daily routine of the project and they will learn the used methods.
After this first three-month period, the volunteers should be able to offer small workshops regarding to their own interests and skills to the children. Therefore we talk to them about their ideas and wishes but also about their fears and expectations. Furthermore we assist our volunteers with developing a schedule and realising the workshop.
Every young person knows the structure of a kindergarten from their own experience, so that the volunteer´s can´t be so wrong.
We have a tutor in every hosting project (trained by our German National Agency). As the team is quite small there is almost every day the posibility of getting in contact with the tutor.
The staff members working in the administration of the JugendSozialwerk Nordhausen e.V. will use every opportunity to get in personal contact with the volunteers. Furthermore they are responsible for keeping the contact with the sending organisation, controlling the compliance made in the project description and in the Activity Agreement and organising joint activities between the volunteers from the different hosting projects of the JugendSozialwerk Nordhausen e.V.
We carry out regular meetings between the volunteer, the contact person from the administration, the leader of the hosting project and the tutor of the volunteer.
