Resumo: The activities mainly take place in a Day Care Center. The center is opened from Monday- Friday 07.30AM till 17.00PM. The Center is usually closed in July/August. During the summer time there are summer camps organized for the clients of the center.

Work with people with disabilities may be emotionally hard in the beginning without any previous experience, but it also gives very much for the volunteer in terms of personal development and reviewing the values to life.

Volunteer will get good understanding of the Estonian social system. Volunteers creativity and communication skills will develop strongly as volunteers needs to find ways how to get contact with the clients of centre, none of the clients speaks English, and many of them have difficulties to communicate verbally in general.

Tarefas: 1) Volunteer will work as an assistant for the staff in the centre.

There is 7 different groups working at the same time and each group has professional social pedagogue working with them. In one group there is maximum 10 clients at the same time, groups are both in Estonian and in Russian.
The volunteer will work in close relation with the pedagogues.

During the day there are different activities taking place in the centre, where volunteer will be helping:
- practising and learning main skills needed for everyday life (clothing, personal hygiene, preparing food, housing works like washing the dishes, cleaning rooms etc)
- developing motorical skills (handicraft, walks, dancing, games etc)
- developing communication skills (increasing the personal vocabulary, adapted signs for expressing personal needs and wishes)
- developing social skills (cooperation, correct behaviour, orientating in local environment, creating a contact etc)
- developing cognitive skills (orientating in time and room, table games, writing, drawing, listening music, nature and self observations etc)


2)Volunteer will work as an assistant for the staff in the centre. There is 6 different groups working at the same time and each group has professional teacher and 3 assistants working with them. In one group there is maximum 7 clients at the same time. The volunteer will work in close relation with assistants.

Therefore activities in the centre also depend on national school holidays; during these holidays only day care activities will be made.

- assisting social workers and social pedagogues and teachers to hold school days and day care activities with children
- help the daily routine:
. children have breakfast
. music, art and physic lessons,
. going to a shop to buy for cooking,
. walking,
. feeling,
. washing,
. collecting,
. having lunch,
. got to toilet with children.

Work in the children centre is to promote and stimulate skills like communication (sign language, system of pictogram) and cognition (colour painting, games, music, orientation in time and space), social (behaviour, cooperation) and motor skills (walking, dancing, taking/grabbing), and skills of perception (recognize differences like cold/warm, heavy/light) by sensible methods as most of the children are mentally and/or multiply disabled, some do not even speak.
