Key duties:

- Care and nurture of the children

- Assist in producing weekly programmes based on annual plan of relevant festivals
- Attend a monthly staff meeting to review and plan as well as a weekly one-to-one meeting with supervisor
- In charge of preparing and cooking morning snack

Volunteers' Daily Routine

The volunteers' tasks are varied and numerous. They include: supervision, arts and crafts, music, gardening and cooking, etc.

Besides the daily routine, the volunteers are encouraged to bring in their own ideas, their own culture and as the Kindergarten is a community-based project they are expected to participate in community focused projects.

Initiative and creativity are two of the most important aspects of the volunteers' work.

Every week, the volunteer takes on one of the main roles: the Classroom assistant, the Cook or the Kitchen helper.

Horário: 9:00–10:45am:
Free play. In this time, the Classroom assistant and the Kitchen helper play with the children, supervise activities. The Cook begins to prepare the meal at 10 o'clock.

10:45am:
Tidy-up-time. The Classroom assistant helps the children to tidy up the classroom while the Kitchen helper lays the table together with some children. After that the Classroom assistant supervises the children washing their hands.

11:00am:
Ring time. The children and teachers form a circle. This time is dedicated to singing and activities related to the theme of the week.

11:15am:
Lunch time for the children.

12:00am:
Outside play. After helping the children put on their coats, the Classroom assistant plays with the children in the playground while the Kitchen helper cleans the classroom and prepares for the next activity. The Cook tidies up in the kitchen.

12:45am:
Story time. The teacher reads a story before the parents arrive to collect the children. The morning session finishes at 1pm.

From 1pm to 2pm, a few children stay for lunch. One of the volunteers supervises the children and prepares for the afternoon session , the other volunteer has lunch from 1 to 2 pm.

During the afternoon, most of the children are only aged 2–3. The volunteer and the teacher play and organise suitable activities for them. The volunteer prepares a snack for the children at 3pm. Then cleans and prepares the classroom for the story time while the children are outside with the teacher. After a story, the parents collect children at 4:30pm.

Within the schedule of 35 hours, the volunteers have 5 hours a week set aside for personal study (including language classes/study), working on their youth pass and learning diary, EVS projects - such as School talks, St Patrick's Day parade as well as other projects to support the project in general - helping with fundraising activities, preparing materials for craft sessions, updating website, helping with recruitment for the following year EVS volunteers.
