Resumo: The hosting organization is a non-profit organisation that recovers and sells second-hand goods to prevent waste and create jobs.

It aims to:
1. IMPROVE LOCAL SOCIAL ECONOMY
a) Creating a selling point for reusable goods (second-hand shop) with affordable prices
b) Creating jobs and training opportunities for the unemployed, especially vulnerable groups like young people, women, people over 50, the long-term unemployed and the disabled.

2. SAVE RESOURCES AND PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT
a) Extend the useful life of reusable products and thus reduce the amount of waste that arrives at the landfills
b) Organise activities to raise awareness and give training to the general public (workshops, courses, markets, etc.)
The project started in October 2013 and is located in a rural area in the south of Catalonia.
All the incoming material is donated by individuals, companies or entities, or recovered from the waste collection centers.

Activities:
● SECOND HAND SHOP
● RECEIVE, select, repair, clean and value all incoming goods
● TRAINING: workshops and courses
● RAISING AWARENESS: exchange and second-hand markets, talks and guided tours

The hosting organization organizes the recovery and selection of reusable products like clothing, furniture, books, household goods, toys, appliances, computer equipment, bikes, building materials, etc.
The reusable products are donated by individuals, companies and entities or recovered from the waste collection centers of the area, thanks to a collaboration with the administration.
After receiving the necessary treatment (cleaning, small repairs, classification) the objects are sold at low prices.
The organization offers the opportunity to do voluntary work or training practices in different areas (sales, repairs, marketing, management) and aims to create jobs in these areas, with special attention to the previously mentioned vulnerable groups.
We offer courses and workshops where the general public can learn how to repair or revalue objects and give them a second life. By organising second-hand markets and other activities we try to stimulate the public to change their attitude towards recycling and reuse.

The organization is located in a warehouse on an industrial site in a small village of 2000 inhabitants, part of the municipality. Most of our public comes about 3-4 km from the warehouse, where half the local population lives (45,000 people). Since we are the only project of our kind, we also get many people from the other villages and towns.
At a socio-economic level, the crisis had a strong impact on local economy. With the closure of several large local companies and the collapse of the building sector many people were left unemployed and with little hope of finding a new job.

Perfil: Age: 18-30
• Given the variety of tasks involved, we are looking for volunteers who are prepared to do whatever is needed.
• A positive, open and collaborative attitude is much more important than a high educational level.

• The public that visits is very diverse so it is important that the volunteer knows (or wants to learn) how to interact with people from different cultures and social backgrounds.

• A minimum level of Spanish and/or Catalan will be necessary and any additional languages very useful and like to learn Catalan.

• During the selection process and depending on the profile of the volunteer his/her future tasks will be further defined.

• Like to live in quiet area
• Like to work with recycling, organizing and attending people with different profiles.
• Creative, independent, friendly and open minded.

Tarefas: The activities of the organization are very diverse and a young volunteer could be involved in several of these activities.

Tasks related to the second-hand shop:
- Selection, classification, repair (if necessary and possible) and cleaning of the donated material
- Display the goods in a creative way
- Attend visitors in the shop and in the Coffee Corner
- Collect objects at the donor’s house or transport sold goods to the buyer's house

Tasks related to the organization of activities:
- Organization of workshops, courses and markets
- Organization of new activities designed by the volunteer, for example in collaboration with other local entities.

Internal tasks:
- Maintenance tasks
- Administrative tasks
In all the above mentioned areas there will be learning opportunities, at a project level (for example participating in the workshops we organize at La Segona Volta) or through external training.

CES project as complementary activity: all the volunteers hosted during this period will create a performance about CES in order to promote CES values of volunteering in schools, youth organizations, etc. The volunteer needs to work on it with the other volunteers all together. There will be a day per week or every two weeks to prepare it. We will schedule it on arrival. It’s important that the volunteer shows interest and have ideas about it.

Condições: • Food and Accommodation
The volunteer will receive food allowance of 4 EUR per day at the end of each month in cash+ basket of fresh vegetables each week. The accommodation is in the city. Facilities are shared with other volunteers participating in the project. Volunteers will share room.
There is NO wifi connection available in the apartment. Volunteers can connect in the Library or directly in their hosting organisation.

• Pocket money
The volunteer will receive a pocket money of 5 € per day at the end of each month in cash.

• Working hours & time off
The working hours are maximum 30-35 hours per week (including Catalan lessons). Working during the weekends and in the evenings is a possibility as far as the hosting give two days free in a row. The volunteer will receive 2 days off per month. Days off of the volunteer are taken at the same time of the organization holidays.

• Language support
The language course will consist of Catalan language and it will be strengthened with language tandem, 2 hours per week. It is really important that volunteers attend Catalan lessons because people will talk to them in Catalan. If volunteers do not attend for different circumstances to language lessons, the activity hours will be augmented.

• Travel costs

Travel expenses from home country to the venue of the project will be reimbursed by the coordination organization in the maximum amount approved in the agreement. Please take into account that we will pay you back the travel costs for your way by plane, train and/ or bus. But only if we have a proof of payment, so please be careful and take your boarding pass, invoice and all the tickets with you. According to this rule it is not possible to pay you for petrol if you are going by car as there is no proof of how many kms have you spent on your way.

• Mentoring and support
The volunteers will be supported by the core team and will have a mentor assigned to them on arrival for the duration of their stay in town.
The mentors will be specially assigned to supervise the volunteers for the duration of the project, to avoid any conflict of interest. The mentor will also be experienced in mentoring volunteers due to our previous volunteer-hosting.

• Insurance
Sanitary insurance is provided by ESC in collaboration with CIGNA. Your sending organization will help you apply for it before departure.
