Resumo: In 1998 a father and a son - Berndt and Peter - started restoring an old house in the tiny village. The house had been standing empty for many years and rain was dripping through the ceiling in every room. They wanted to restore the house in the traditional way and create a place for learning, founded on sustainable principles, that would show beauty of this rural area.
Now, more than 20 years later and many people pouring their love, music and hard work into the project, Mundekulla has become a retreat and course center, visited by 2000-2500 people each year
from all over the world. It is a hub for personal development, creativity, peace & sustainability.
The organization hosts many courses and retreats: from meditation, mindfulness and yoga to theatre. From forest bathing to university lectures, eco-conferences and a yearly music festival. Yet, the quiet and peacefulness of Mundekulla are still intact, the soil is more alive than at the start and the forest is growing more diverse

Perfil: You are between 18-30 years old from EU or neighbouring countries and you have a genuine interest for sustainable living and working, community life, personal development, learning-by-doing and international exchange.
You have the ambition to be part of a positive societal change towards sustainability, community and solidarity and your are searching for skills, knowledge and experience in these fields.
You want to bring your learning during ESC back into work and projects in your own home context.
You are hands-on, caring, kind, solutionoriented, flexible, fun and responsible.

Tarefas: Five areas of volunteering
During your stay you work in the five different work areas. You will get an understanding of a social and sustainable project inside out and develop qualities to contribute to such projects or start your own, as entrepreneur or intrapreneur. Different seasons and different personal skills and preferences may vary the work. You will contribute 50% in a focus area and 50% all-round within the project.
- Organic gardening and landscaping:
In 2018 we started an organic garden for growing vegetables, herbs and (edible) flowers.
The purpose of the garden is to take care of compost, grow organic vegetables, work with different ecological gardening methods, making use of forest materials and education for people visiting the organization.
Within the ESC project we will work with growing from seed, plant schooling, harvesting, greenhouse gardening, making compost, creating and maintaining raised beds, as well as with further developing the garden: new growing areas and landscaping. All garden activity is led by Clinton, who has worked at 3 big eco projects with gardens in Sweden in the last 10 years

- Sustainable cooking and circular gastronomy
At the organization we work with local farmers, organic produce and a vegan-vegetarian kitchen. Through the CIRTOINNO project within the EU we got to learn more about circular gastronomy and economy and we continue to improve the sustainability of our kitchen
You will learn about sustainable cooking and circular gastronomy. You get hands-on experience through supportive roles in the kitchen, like helping in the vegetable room, learning to make small dishes, preparing breakfast and making fika.
In season we will go out and forage wild flowers
and mushrooms. We will share several workshops and visit local farms we collaborate with. All kitchen activity is led by the Mundekulla chefs.

- Sustainable building and maintenance
The organization preserves its forest and is working on growing its biodiversity: the aim is 30% locally native leaf trees and fruit trees.
In 2019 we started a project in which people can adopt a tree. In 2021 we will start planting new trees that are funded by this project. We are also developing an educational experience for children and adults around forest diversity and protection, including theatre, forest paths and planting trees.
We will work with maintenance of the forest, make forest paths, harvest forest materials for the garden, plant of trees, explore the edible qualities of the forest and contribute to creation of the educational experience.

- Forest preservation and maintenance
At the organization we build with different sustainable building methods. From strawbale building to recycling old buildings, historical renovation to tiny houses.
We make use of natural materials, paints, natural insulation, etc. Buildings and maintenance are an important part of our project and we showcase also work with solar panels and we will install more solar in 2020.
You will learn about sustainable building, recycling, green energy and how we’ve built Mundekulla with restricted means into what it is today. Volunteer activities will include small maintenance, like painting, small repairs, mowing grass, recycling and beautifying spaces.

- Community, entrepreneurship and creativity
Community, creativity and entrepreneurship are at the core of the organization. This is not truly a working area, but it is an important part of your volunteer stay! From daily life to events; from creative projects to crowdfunding.
We will share about the entrepreneurial history of the organization and the different projects that are ongoing (cookbook, garden, music). As staff we will share our personal experiences, insights and tools for overcoming difficulties and invite you to share your experience, passions and qualities as well.
We will actively facilitate for social skills and personal development: learning from each other co-creation, creative expression and taking initiative. We will provide a platform for volunteers to share their knowledge or skills with the wider (Mundekulla) community for example in workshop form or open days. In the past volunteers have offered yoga, music and foraging walks
