Resumo: The volunteer, supervised by a professional youth worker, will work at the heart of our organisation. The scope of their activities will affect the whole town. We concentrate some activities in different areas of town. The volunteer will work with youngsters from different backgrounds as well as with various local partners (cultural mediator, street workers...).
The activities and training of our volunteer will thus be centred round real socio-cultural town policies.

Perfil: We would like to have a volunteer from 18 to 25 years old. They will be able to adapt to life in a rural area. They should be both autonomous and responsible, and must be open-minded about others and their culture.
The volunteer should have a real motivation for learning the French language (as very few people in the area can speak English).
We would appreciate someone with an interest for popular culture such as music, performing art, video etc. We are sure these can be uniting factors despite the language problem. Music and/or instrument skills are not essential but we will pay particular attention to volunteers presenting this field of competence.
At work they must be flexible and adaptable, in order to meet schedules and deadlines. They will need teamwork skills as well as a strong sense of initiative. Lastly, they should share a real interest in working with kids and teenagers.

Tarefas: The volunteer's main assignments will be:
> To run and to take part in languages workshops in order to introduce his language to French youngsters. It could be both workshops with games and speeches at school. The aim is to allow a cultural awareness and to develop communications despite of the language barrier.
> To take part in the discussion, conception and realization of project and activities for youngsters from 3 to 17. They will work together with youth leaders during summer camps.
>To help develop a European dimension in activities, and to arouse youngsters' awareness of
Europe. He will be able to set up workshops, exchanges, and activities about European diversity.
> To take part in activities led by the organization under the urban development policy (fight against racism, music festival…)
> Play a part in preparing cultural events (festivals, theatre...)
> He will be able to suggest actions in the cultural (music, drama, dance…) and sportive fields. The results of his different actions (articles written by youngsters, videos, music, photography…) could be used for the association's website.
> Because the volunteer will get French lessons, you would like he organizes language lessons for the citizens. A kind of exchange as like to develop the "Youth in action" program :"I give, I get"
The association wishes to organize a culture event in the city dedicated to local youngsters. The volunteer could lead a group of youngsters to be involved in the organization of this event. If he wishes to, he would work with professional leaders who would help him.
The volunteer will work 35 hours a week from Monday to Friday and sometimes on Saturday depending on the association's events schedules. He will get 2 days off per week.

Condições: A tutor from the organization will be in charge of each volunteer (someone who work for the association: professional or volunteer). They will meet together as much as necessary to help them settle in, to integrate into the community, to discover the region and the French culture - and to fix any problems that may arise.
During their stay, they shall acquire basic knowledge about the execution and management of socio-cultural and non-formal projects by the association's professional workers team.
With the interim and final reviews, the volunteer will recognize at what stage his acquired knowledge - and his skills developed like autonomy, self-knowledge, team work, French language and cultural capacity - have reached. Regular team meetings will allow him to express his professional needs and expectations.

A tutor will go with the volunteer. He will help him for integration like necessary procedures, visits, meeting with local population. The tutor will be a person knows the association and if possible young and dynamic. In no case it will be a work supervisor or superior.

As mentioned in the EVS programme, the volunteer will be offered classes in French with a teacher involved in a local partner association. The aim is to allow the volunteer to be independent in projects he will be eager to do. This language training will be the opportunity for the volunteer to talk about daily life with the teacher. The teacher will deliver his lessons depending on the youngster's level and expectations. As English speakers are scarce in our organization, we do offer intensive lessons at the beginning. They will also receive training in first aid as French regulation requires when you work with youngster. Our organization will provide him with a fully equipped flat (washing machine, internet...) in the town as well as a bicycle. Our organization will pay for leisure (cinema, swimming pool...) as well as discount cards for the regional bus and train companies. The volunteer will get a mobile phone with pre-paid card. For international calls he will be able to use the office phone.
During the school time it would be possible for him to have his lunch in the school cafeteria. At the evening the diner will be prepared by the volunteer. We expect to give him an average of 8 euro / day for food.

Formação: We are convinced that the involvement of youths is inseparably linked to European integration. By hosting a volunteer, our organisation would like to develop the European dimension of our local projects. By the exchange of volunteers we wish to promote the civic participation and autonomy of the youngster - as well as make them discover the cultural dimension of their host country, thus preventing discrimination and encouraging the understanding of diversity.
