Tarefas: The associatio is going through changes transforming from regular orphanage into individual housing facilities which construction activities start summer/autumn 2011. He/she can help learn how the process of this transformation can take place and is happening in Elva.
Half of the children at the orphanage are with special needs so the volunteer will get first hand experience in working with them and getting to know what are the actual needs for kids with special needs (mainly learning disabilities and slight mental disabilities). As Elva is a small community with its own traditions the future volunteer will learn about the cultural and social nature of the community.
Role of the volunteer will be assisting in daily activities of the organisation: taking care of the children, helping in on-going workshops, organising excursions and he/she is encouraged to initiate new ideas and workshops of her/his own.

Elva Väikelastekodu is responsible for ensuring a safe living and working environment for the volunteers. They will be supported by a mentor, which will help them where necessary, explaining all their questions or doubts and helping in all its difficulties, which is a young person that knows the community very well and is very willing to support the volunteer. Elva Väikelastekodu and partner's staff already attended in conflict management training course and we have knowledge to deal with risk and crises.

Formação: Thisorganisation has provided home for vulnerable kids over 50 years now. It has developed from a day care centre for children up to 7 years to a welfare institutions that provides a steady home for children until they find a proper foster-family or reach to the age when they are ready for independent life. During the time when children live at the orphanage the staff has set a goal to provide variety of experiences (workshops, outings, international volunteer) through which children can develop their individuality and grow in self-confidence.
Orphanage has art and acting workshops, organise excursions around Estonia and visits to exhibitions and to have an international volunteers as a part of the team would be another step forward in making the environment for the children at the orphanage educational and entertaining. Motivation lies in giving the chance for children and the staff to meet a person form another cultural and social background which enables them to learn through the first hand experience about similarities and differences of cultures. It gives the children a chance to experience another perspective to take upon life. Volunteer will play a role in showing how volunteering could be one of the choices to go for in order to gather more experiences on life that will be beneficial for future.
For the future volunteer the organisation offers a place where she/he can truly contribute to the actively growing organisation. Elva Väikelastekodu is always looking for a ways to improve the support system for the children. At the moment they are in process of planning to set up individual housing system where smaller number of children will be accommodated and summer/spring 2011 is the time when the houses will be built. The volunteer will be in the centre of these changes and can contribute with his/her advice. Main importance lyes in the quality time that the volunteer can offer to the children in form of his/her attention and skills. He/she will experience how much care these children need and how much his/her volunteering will contribute to their growth.
