Resumo: This project has the aim to give the opportunity to young people to transform objects or materials that are
‘sentenced’ to be waste, into new things, tools or art.

More than ever the world needs more and more effective actions to mitigate the impact of climate change.
Natural disasters, extreme weather, deforestation, lack of natural resources and more is due to the overconsumption
of the world’s population demands. Everything that we consume leaves a print, and uses
natural resources (in more or less measure) that are not renewable.

Based on the movements and theories of Zero Waste and Circular Economy, we thought of an idea to first promote a more ethical consumption and reuse/repurpose habits, for then involve youngsters and people in general into the action of adding new value to waste, through art and creativity. Of giving ‘waste’ a second chance to be useful, and also giving a second chance to the world. And also share with the volunteers different ways of being more autonomous and empower them into making more things with their hands (and minds!).

Main objectives:
1. Promote repurposing and recycling habits.
2. Raise awareness of the amount of waste created by the society.
3. Feel the need to reduce overconsumption, and thus their carbon footprints.

Secondary objectives:
1. Let youngsters explore their creativity and create something concrete with their own hands.
2. Promote intercultural and transgenerational exchange.
3. Include youngsters with fewer opportunities and/or refugees in social and artistic actions with a positive
impact.
4. Support youngsters in the development of audiovisual communications skills.

Perfil: Age: 18-25

Social inclusion and youngsters with fewer opportunities:
For this project we have as a priority in the selection process to search for youngsters with social/educational
obstacles, refugees or inmigrants, or youngsters with no many possibilities of intercultural exchange
and non-formal education experiences.

Volunteers in the action:
We will have three participants to represent each country in the laboratory of repurposing materials.
Although some knowledge or experience with machines to work with wood or metal will be useful, it won’t
be a mandatory requirement. On the other hand, a certain level of environmental awareness will be asked,
in order to go deeper into the topic with the participants.

Volunteers in documenting (communications):
Each partner organization will look for one participant that can suit this position. This means, a youngster
with interest, some experience and/or knowledge of communication strategies, social media, photography
and video editing. We strongly believe in the importance of communicating the activities of the project
and share the results in an appropriate way. This is the reason why we are going to look for this specific
profile.

The volunteers in this role will have the chance to develop more in the field of audiovisual production and
communications, and will be supported during ALL THE PROJECT by our professional staff, who will
follow and guide the activities in addition to giving some workshops and tools.

Tarefas: Our project is divided into seven main activities: one will be held before the mobility, five will be developed
along the two months of volunteering and one after the volunteers go back to their countries. We believe
in the importance of developing online activities before the mobility, in order to introduce the participants
in the topic, give them some training about sustainability and video-making, and motivate them to awaken
their creativity. With this, we aim that the volunteers are ready to pass into the action when they make the
mobility.

1. Online Training and Immersion.
2. On arrival training and Group Dynamic.
3. Meeting with experts of waste management.
4. Recollection of materials.
5. Creation, minds and hands in action.
6. Exposition and Workshops.
7. Dissemination in each partner organization.

Another activity that will be executed all along the two months is the audiovisual register and the creation
of media content for online dissemination. Four volunteers (one per each country) will have the task of
documenting (photo and video) the whole process of the project, obtain testimonies from the volunteers
and the local beneficiaries and create relevant and useful content about repurposing and recycled
art/construction to share with other youngsters.
