Resumo: Library consists of 23 branches, which are situated in different districts of the city. Often the library may be the only cultural institution in the neighborhood. Depending on the district, where the libraries’ departments are located, our main actions concern groups of people socially and culturally excluded – in terms of not equal access to social and cultural goods, where society is rather passive (in both financial and cultural ways). Therefore, we prepare workshops with local artists and social workers, reading aloud, designing illustrations with kids, lessons on how to use book resources, how to search for information on the Internet and in books, English lessons for young and older people – equalizing opportunities and various workshops.
It has a great value to us to implement actions that are important for the community, respond to their needs and as well reflect on the social and mental changes that take place over the years. Our goal is also to adjust our offer to the social reality, which is changing very fast and also to encourage the community to be more open minded. People who are supporting us in these actions are: teachers, social workers, artists, students, readers, parents and so on.
Our aim is to meet cultural and social needs of our society.
The aim of this project is that one volunteer realizes his or her project in a certain branch, but this does not exclude the activities and cooperation with other branches. The volunteers will have the opportunity to broaden their own knowledge and creativity. At the beginning s/he will watch the activities, which will be conducted in the Library and become familiar with other duties of the librarians. With time, the volunteers will be able to conduct workshops on their own. Help is needed in all kinds of tasks, some simple and some more complex. The volunteers will work with the local community in the newest branch of the City´s Library.
Our main customers are teenagers and young adults. We organize special events which include: exhibitions, a mobile summer library on the beach, music concerts, theatres, lectures, authors meetings and readings, art classes, jam sessions and many, many more, most of which are connected to pop culture.
Our department has young, creative people who want to work for the local community and develop culture in Gdynia. Working with us, you will have an opportunity to gain experience in organizing cultural events, non-formal education, and get an insight on how it is to be a librarian.
Perfil: Age: 18-30
We are looking for a volunteer who is interested in organizing cultural events, enjoys working with people, representing his/her country and culture and is also willing to share those through workshops and language classes.
A volunteer should be communicative and open for new experiences, creative and inventive.
It is welcome if the volunteer has basic to advanced English language skills and is willing to study Polish. It would help a lot in the daily life of a volunteer and would enable him/her to be more involved in the organizations life.
The volunteer should be interested in methods of active education, open for people from other countries and cultures and willing to co-operate and work in groups. S/he should be open-minded. We are searching for young people who can contribute to the actions taken by the library and would like to develop their personality.
Being familiar with the usage of electronic devices, apps used in social media or for graphic design, the elementary library routines, being interested in literature or having some artistic skills would be a positive asset taken into consideration during the recruitment process.
