Resumo: Our immediate environment is the Raval, one of the most intercultural neighbourhoods of the city. There are may educational and social projects aimed at integrating all the different groups of people that live together here in this area.
Nexes contributes the added value of promoting youth mobility in Europe and the active participation of the young people of the neighbourhood and the city. We believe this activity is particularly interesting in this environment since it goes further than the local integration and it offers numerous opportunities for the new comers.
The volunteer will live in the same city but in independent accommodation from the beneficiaries of the hosting Project.
Perfil: Academic qualifications are not relevant for our selection. We value very positively a clear motivation, and interest in Youth EU policies. For our association it is very important that the candidate shows enough enthusiasm to allow him/her to continue developing the new capabilities in the future and to continue to promote and work in the field of active citizen participation, non formal education and intercultural learning.
Priority will be given to candidates with less mobility opportunities.
Our project is clearly outlined in the EVS database, and we constantly send information to our European partners, to circulate among their users.
We gather all the cvs that arrive through out the year for a pre-selection based on their motivation and knowledge of the project. The final decision is taken by all the members from the association.
During all the process we keep an open communication with all the candidates, explaining our reasons for not selecting them.
We welcome any kind of sending organisation as long as they are committed to giving real support to the volunteer and show interest towards their personal and professional development.
We expect likewise from the sending organisation to know their volunteers and that they present us really motivated people willing to commit themselves to our project.
Tarefas: The volunteer will attend training workshops about: the EU , the EU policies for young people, European Programs for young people, The Youth in Action Programme (EVS), The Program Leonardo da Vinci, Sócrates, F.S.E., the information service for young people, advise and guidance to young people, socio-cultural entertainment, group dynamics, consulting to organisations (public and private), working modules on intercultural relations, preparation of departing groups in mobility programs and management and funding of a non profit organisation.
The volunteer will also learn the meaning of "work group" and "group work", as well as how to plan and implement a Project (idea, preparation, execution and evaluation) but also practical things like the use of the different instruments we work with in the association.
The volunteer will be offered a cultural program designed for him/her, in which we plan for the volunteer to take part in activities and events organised by Nexes and other youth organisations. In this way the volunteer will get in touch with not only the forums of citizen participation but also with the people that actually participate in these places.
At the end of their project hey will receive the certificate Youthpass-EVS.
The volunteer will support the activities to do with EVS and youth mobility in general (exchanges, Leonardo).
The mentor is in charge of the EVS volunteer and will be working side by side with him/her, allowing more independence little by little.
The volunteer is also welcome to take part in other projects of the association, depending on his/her interests, ideas and contributions. The mentor and remaining members of Nexes will support the volunteer with the association activities and the ones related to his/her specific Project so the volunteer can integrate to the association while learning.
The volunteer will do a weekly assessment together with the mentor in relation to what he/she has learnt and of possible critical points of the cooperation. There will also be other more formal evaluations with more members form Nexes present throughout the project.
The basic activity will be the promotion of international youth mobility projects: EVS counselling, contacting partners, dissemination of the programme; and up-date and dissemination of local activities through the web site or magazine.
The volunteer will also have time allocated for implementing activities of his/her own creation, as long as they respond to the objectives of the project and the training of the volunteer

Condições: The mentor and the whole Nexes team in general - whom the volunteer can contact 24 h a day - will be available for any kind of emergency or aid, giving advice or accompanying him/her if necessary.
The volunteer will by handed the information regarding the management of any incidence. Psychological help is also available: the professional team at Nexes counts on instructors and youth trainers well trained in handling delicate situations and conflicts.
Our strategy is as follows: for any kind of problem we always steak with the volunteer first to find out if he/she can solve the problem on their own or needs our help. In addition to learn to solve conflicts, we try to guide the volunteer to suggest a solution him or herself.
The volunteer is aware from the beginning that he/she can discuss any kina of problem with their mentor or any member of the team, and for this we try to gain their trust through a clam environment.
In any case we will detail bellow our management method in case of any problem:
Problems with Accommodation:- There are two kinas of problems.
-the volunteer doesn't like the hose, neighbourhood or room: we talk with them explaining how flexibility and adaptation capacity are part of intercultural learning. If the difficulty can't be solved we look for another room.
- Problems with the people that share the flat: we try to get to the root of the problem, mediating between all the parts. If the difficulty can't be solved we look for another room,
Problems integrating - the mentor and a cultural program especially designed to introduce the volunteer to his/her new reality are the first tools fro integrating the volunteer in the community.
In addition all the staff from N exes will help him/her to contact with other volunteers or people that the association works with. Physiological help is also available from the team.
.
Problems with work and tasks - the volunteer will be presented his/her weekly work plan on the Monday meeting. any doubt can be discussed with the Nexes team particularly during the meeting. HE/She can talk with the mentor at any time. The plan we propose is not intended to be mandatory for the volunteer, they are simple guidelines to help him organise, and it is open to any suggestion or personal contribution from the volunteer.
Health Problems - if the volunteer need to visit the doctor, anybody from the organisation can help him/her find one and accompany them.
Formação: Nexes has 10-year experience in the EVS, since it was set up in 2000. Its founders where former volunteers or had worked with EVS projects in other countries.
Since then we have hosted 2 volunteers a year for periods of 6 months, and 1/year for periods of 9 months. We didn't want to host more because we want to guarantee monitoring. We consider hosting volunteers a priority in our organization since our work is centred in around youth training on active citizenship and participation, and EVS is the maximum expression of this.
The importance of the presence of a European volunteer has been confirmed to us through these years experience, we find their motivation and what they contribute very stimulating for the work of the association. We have also had the chance of seeing the effect this experience has had in many of our former volunteers that have then gone on to carry out activities in their own countries of origin to promote European Programs, and the active participation of young people.
The EVS is a very enriching experience all parts involved.
This is why after having been a hosting organisation for so many years we would now like to get more involved as a host, sending and coordinating organisation. We want to promote and disseminate European youth mobility and provide young people with the chance of having such an experience. We also want to show our experience to other organisations, so they can also host volunteers and enrich from it.
As coordinating organisation, we will ensure the establishment of strong partnerships which guarantee a correct project management, both in technical and administrative aspects. The Activity Agreements will detail the appropriate management elements for each project. In any case, we commit to establish and carry out the technical, training and administrative measures which ensure a comprehensive, open learning process for volunteers, an efficient follow-up and mentorship, individual for each volunteer, a transparent financial management, and, in general, the fulfilment of all matters established in the Programme's Guide.
