Resumo: The hosting organization is an International, Humanitarian and Independent Institution based in Cyprus. Our Institution is established on standards and principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and European Union Law.
It works on humanitarian and development policy relevant to the defence and promotion of children’s rights. It does so through research, grassroots program design and implementation and advisory services offered to governments and international organizations. Our vision is to contribute to the protection and promotion of rights of the child and to support the active participation of youth in society.
Perfil: We are looking for undergraduates and graduates alike, offering various volunteer positions that can match your abilities. Particularly, we are looking for young people 20-30 years old having the following work-related skills and characteristics:
• Good knowledge of the English language.
• High-school graduates.
• Have the ability to work in a multicultural environment, and the ability to engage in intercultural dialogue and communication.
• Able to work in a team - willing to work with young people from different nationalities and religions.
• Enthusiastic, hard-working, flexible and undertaking initiatives.
• Organization skills and problem solving.
• Ethical person with no prejudices and respectful towards the non-discrimination and mutual respect principles.
• Holders of an academic degree in one of the following fields: Psychology, Counselling, Psychotherapy, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Law will be considered an advantage.
• Knowledge of either Greek, French and Arabic languages will be considered an advantage.
Tarefas: 1. Facility activities and support activities, where the volunteers will assist in the progress of the regular schedule and activities of the shelters:
- Intake of photo and social history upon the arrival of each minor;
- Assisting the staff for updating individual care plans of minors;
- Support the afternoon educational classes and entertainment activities: leisure time, playing with the minors, e.g. basketball, art workshop, chess, volleyball and gardening;
- Support the learning process, assist the minors with their homework, assistance in finding a place in a school;
- Prepare and provide extra English language lesson to the minors, if needed;
- Accompany minors to schools, other classes, to the hospital/ to vocational training, internship workplace;
- Support during the transition to adulthood and integration to the society (support the beneficiaries searching a job, accommodation etc.);
- Office work: correspondence by e-mail, technical assistance;
- Promotional activities – preparing press releases, updating the web page;
- Support the preparation of meals, assistance with serving lunch or dinners.
2. Research & surveys tasks about the themes and topics connected with:
- Children’s rights;
- Disadvantaged minorities/children;
- Family tracing and assessment, possibility of voluntary return within the framework of family reunification to other member states and/or of return to the country of origin;
- The integration of foreign/migrant children in Cypriot schools;
- Investigation of possibility for placement in foster care.
3. Creative activities that can take place one time or be repeating and are not part of the regular program of the shelter but have complementary value
like. A final version of the final creative project (theory/methodology /practice report/lessons learned) to the ESC responsible coordinator.
- Support the social projects of the shelters and take initiative to organize new ones;
- Attend and support awareness and fundraising events of the organization
- Assist in organizing campaigns and workshops to equip children, their families/carers and societies at large with knowledge and tools to prevent and report sexual violence against children, thereby raising awareness of its extent;
- Organizing international campaigns/conferences together with the staff about -projects that aim at raising awareness on the needs of Children on the Move, developing and promoting the adoption of appropriate policies within the EU agenda to respond to this phenomenon at EU level and throughout Europe;
- Fundraising (preparing letters to organizations fundraising or activities, identifying and connecting possible donors);
- Human rights awareness training;
- Preparing and providing art/drama workshops.
4. ESC dissemination activities (you are free to start working on these activities from day one but all these activities must be finalised by the latest September 2020 on the 11 month of the program):
1. Youthpass, a self-assessment certificate that will be completed by the 11th month.
2. Final testimonial your experience as a volunteer and propose also a photo of you for this reason.
3. 4-5 articles for the blog according to the themes described there.
4. Design a postcard that would promote one of the children's right and that will have our logo and the Erasmus logo on it. The image on the postcard can be anything related to your experience as a volunteer.
5. Fill in the internal Evaluation form provided by the host organisation
6. Fill in the Mobility Evaluation form (the invitation will be received on your personal email)
7. Describe in one page with all the results or activities you had been involved and what impact had the volunteering experience for you.
8. fill, print and sign the Attached Attendance sheet.
Horário: The volunteers will work 35 hours weekly, which includes staff meetings and language lessons. The exact weekly timetable depends on the specific area of the shelters, in which they will be integrated, and the activities they will implement. Normally, they will work 5 consecutive days a week and have 2 consecutive days off (the exact days will depend on the weekly schedule). Nevertheless, they may be asked to reschedule their working days/hours if specific activities or needs of the minors require this change.
Condições: There will be weekly meetings, where the volunteers can talk about issues that arise in the work environment.
Their mentors will be responsible for assisting them with the process of identifying and developing their key competencies and filling out the Youthpass.
Accommodation
The volunteers will be provided with accommodation in a rented apartment/house (as close as possible from the location of the shelters) for the purpose of ESC in Nicosia, Cyprus
Bus cards/bicycles
The volunteers will be provided with a bus card or a bicycle for local transport upon request.
Allowances
The volunteers will receive monthly the allowance for pocket money, Food allowance and local transportation allowance. Every month each volunteer will sign a document that confirms receiving the pocket money.
