Resumo: On the 20th october 2014, located in the middle of the newly built student village, opened its doors for 30 children between the ages of 1 to 6 years old. The Maria Montessori concept of mixed aged groups is being used in the care-taking of the children (for detailed information about the pedagogy of Maria Montessori see point 9).

The kindergarten is bilingual (German and English) and all the operations are run in English and German language. The team consists of 2 native English speaking educators and 2 German speaking educators who have either diplomas in Montessori education or have vast experience working in Montessori schools. There is also one team member, who will begin the process of training to work with kids with learning difficulties or disabilities (integration educator). Due to the constant contact to the bilingual educators the children are able to learn and practice German and English language within a playful environment.

The name "Bienennest", what means bee nest, is connected with the very social acting bees, which are on the brink of extinction. The protection of the bees will be an everlasting project during the pedagogical everyday life of the kindergarten, which is also connected with other saving the bees-projects in Berlin. The children will learn how the bees are living and will be participating in planting flowers which are helpful for the bees.

The parents and the educators work together in a lot of different ways. The parents are taken seriously with their wishes and needs and are empowered to express suggestions and critique in order to enable enhancement. Regular exchange between the parents, the educators and the institution support democractic action and transparency.

Perfil: Age: 18-30

Tarefas: - supervising the children, accompanying them while playing, reading out books
- Going on excursions to the forest or other places
- Helping in the kitchen: washing the dishes and preparing the meals
- Accompanying the children during lunch break

Horário: Monday to Friday from 7.30 till 17.00
Weekends are free
On special occasions (anniversary celebration, holidays) the volunteer helps with the preparations, this can exceptionally take place on weekends.
The vacation days have to be taken during the holidays of the institution and they have to be discussed with the colleagues in advance.

Condições: During the first weeks the volunteer will be living with the family of the director. In the following weeks they will look together for a room for the volunteer in a shared flat or a student’s hall of residence.
So in the beginning the volunteer will sometimes be eating in the kindergarten or the hosting family and the volunteer should participate in the preparation of these meals. For other meals the volunteer will get an allowance.
The volunteer will get a monthly ticket for public transport (bus, tramway, subway).
