Resumo: The hosting organization is a non-profit organization which develops environmental and heritage conservation projects. Since the 1960’s, we organize summer camps in Brittany to involve people from foreign countries and give them the opportunity to meet, to be useful, to discover our region, to help the preservation of our heritage and the peace between communities! Since the 80’s we develop social inclusion works, but we are still organizing volunteer camps!
What is this project for? As always, we think that to develop tolerance between people, the best way is to meet each other. With this project we intend to make young people from foreign countries to meet each other and to meet locals. This project will give the opportunity to young people to propose and develop their own ideas, it shall give them confidence. We use heritage as a medium because it allows to create bridges between cultures, and to develop the sense of community and European citizenship.
When? Who? Where? This project will involve 14 volunteers aged between 18 and 30 from 8 countries: Estonia, Spain, Poland, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Germany and France. The volunteers will arrive to Rennes on 10th June and will leave on 8th August.
Perfil: Age: 18-30
Tarefas: The volunteers will have two missions. The enhancement of Breton heritage and the development of relations with locals. So as to implement these missions, the volunteers will pass through several periods:
1- Integration: from June 10th to 14th , the Team of Volunteers will be welcome in order to have the integration period. In addition to some team buildings activities, the volunteers will have the chance to get to know the city and do some touristic activities.
2- Work camp: from 14th June to 5 July, the volunteers will go to Chateaugiron where they will restore and preserve the castle of the city, an important heritage of the architectural Breton heritage. In addition to the physical work, they will organize actions toward locals. It might be intercultural café, stand on the market, with different topics: the history of the built heritage, the promotion of the project, European mobility programs. There will be also days to discover and enjoy the region!
3- Break: from 5th to 12th July the volunteers will come back to Rennes in order to have a break week. During this week there will be evaluation activities of the project and touristic visits and trips.
4- Work camp: from 12th July to 2nd August, the volunteers will go to a second place where they will buildings that are part of the heritage such as churches, chapels and ancient buildings. In addition to the physical work, they will organize activities with the local population as in the first work camp.
5- Evaluation: to end up with the experience, from 2nd to 8th August, the volunteers will come back to Rennes in order to evaluate and assess the project.
Condições: An important part of these projects is the community life. The volunteers will spend a lot of time together. They will have to live, work, organize their free time, manage the common budget, cook and eat all together. Summarizing, this project demands of acceptation, active listening, comprehension and motivation since the volunteers will experience what is living into a community for one month.
Regarding the work, they are meant to do physical work outside and to propose activities with both, the other volunteers and the local community. They will discover local traditions, food, music, dances and weather! The accommodation during the work-camp is done in tents in the local football stadium. All the equipment to sleep (tents, mattresses, blankets, sheets, pillows, etc.), the cooking staff, and normal self-hygiene elements (toilets, bathrooms, showers, etc.) are provided. During the time the volunteers are not in the work-camp, they will be in Rennes and they will have more free time and an individual room in a dormitory: time to relax! With the European Voluntary Service program, volunteers will get 6 euros per day for their individual expenses. During the work-camp period, we will provide them a common food budget that is managed by the own group. During the time the volunteers are in the first place, there is a food budget of 7€ a day.
Transportation from and to the residence countries of the volunteers will be reimbursed. Transportation in France is also given by the organization. The volunteers will have vehicles from the hosting organization available to discover the region.
