Resumo: The activities are realized in the following residents/structures:
- Federica Community House - (Centre of Palermo) The Community is open to minors with measures disposed by the Court for Minors between 10 and 14 years (n.8 places); "Federica House" is written in the regional list at n.1816 with D.D.G., Regional Secretariat for Family and Social policies, from Sicily Region n.4301 (on December 16, 2003). This Community works in cooperation with Juvenile Court, the Municipality of Palermo, Local Sanitary authorities and local institutions.
- Casa Salvatore (Via Nazionale n.397, Villagrazia di Carini-Palermo): Community Housing for children between 6 and 10 years with measures ordered by the Juvenile Judicial Authority; Casa Salvatore works in network with the Juvenile Court of Palermo, Municipality of Palermo, Health Services, Foster care Center. Casa Salvatore welcomes a maximum of 10 children.
- The project "La Vela Grande" (Via Quarto dei Mille, Palermo): apartment group for teenagers/young adults aged between 17 and 21 years reported by the Territorial Services and USSM (Social Service Offices for Minors - Department for Juvenile Justice). The youth inserted in the apartment are not only recipients of the project but real actors who are involved in the realization of theirs educational tailored projects, in the management of their lives at organizational, economic and decisional level. Nowadays is accepting mainly unaccompanied foreign minors.
- C'ENTRO ANCH'IO (Origlione Square, Palermo): Cultural integrated recreation Centre. The activities tend to promote the integration of persons with disabilities (art. 4 L. 285/97) in agreement with the Municipality of Palermo.
- C'ENTRO ANCH'IO 2 (Origlione Square, Palermo): Cultural integrated recreation Centre. The activities tend to promote the integration of persons with disabilities and in particular with educational actions for disabled adults. The Centre was activeted in 2001 in collaboration with Caritas of Palermo and the Centre for Pastoral Care of Disabled People of the Archdiocese of Palermo.

Projects and activities:

- Project "Ne vale la Pena" - Polivalent day-time centre
Other Partners are: Sicily Region, the Opera Don Calabria, the Centre for Juvenile Justice Centre in Palermo. The centre works with deviant teenagers and/or young people inserted in the penal circuit, realizing accompanying programme for social insertion giving an important role to the penal mediation.
- Project "Art Laboratories - Laboratori d'arte" from year 2000 - The project realized integration activity in the schools to allow the cooperation between normodotated minors and disabled person. The project was promoted thanks to: Municipality of Palermo, the Office of Public Education of the city. N.15 secondary schools were involved. A staff of 28 operators has worked together to create integration culture.
- "Integrated theatre workshop - Laboratorio teatrale integrato": Activities aimed at disabled and normal adults in order to promote the integration and the development of an empathic capacity. The project is funded by the Regional Province of Palermo.
- Project "Ingrana la VII°" (St. Filippo Neri neighbourhood - ZEN, Palermo) - Activities realized in the territory of Palermo and in particular in the San Filippo neighborhood (called ZEN) involving all the local schools and many associations. The project is funded by the Foundation for the South.
- Internship training - The different offices/places of Association Apriti Cuore have signed an agreement with the University of Study in Palermo and with other training institutions for the completion of the internship training. Also within the structures of the Association is possible to carry on the "Civil Service".

As far as concerned volunteer host placement, they will live in an apartment, can share with EVS from other projects. Both common and private rooms will be provided in order to facilitate socialization but also respect privacy of all the volunteers.
The volunteers will manage the apartment by themselves and thus will organize their time, according to the project needs and the Programme rules, enhancing their personal growt.
Living in a close contact with the local community will give to the volunteers not only the possibility to fastly learn the Italian language, but also to "enter" the Sicilian culture, strenghtening the informal learning aspects and the intercultural experience connected to the EVS.

Perfil: Strong motivation in working with disadvantaged youth. Availability to
spend part of the service (2-3 months) out of the city of Palermo and in
small village. Previous experience in social work.
Availability to work with disable people assisting them in all everyday
life needs.
In case the volunteer do not yet speak Italian, also a big patience is
required since the first time can be stresfful.
In the beginning of the service, the impact with the communities can be
hard due to facing daily difficulties of the people living in the
communities with their problems, but all volunteers who have been there
had an extremely enriching, motivating and emotionally fulfilling
experience.

Tarefas:
Volunteers in general will have these tasks and duties:
o support in daily activity in the Communities (for example: Federica Community House, Casa Salvatore, C'ENTRO ANCH'IO and C'ENTRO ANCH'IO 2);
o support in reintegrating activities in the territory (for example: Project "Ne vale la pena");
o assistance to the beneficiaries in extra-scholastic activities, games and ricreative programmes;
o accompanying trips (schools, places of services, shops, leisure areas, etc. ...);
o facilitation interventions for difficult activities otherwise impossible to be realized by the persons (for example, small tasks of domestic ménage, orientation in the city and in the system of Services, etc...).

Activities so will be different:
o cooperation with the operators of services for the implementation of individualized educational plans;
o collaboration with local associations, with individual person as teachers;
o rehabilitation and handling of the material used during the activities;
o help to the children in the schoolwork;
o participation in activities and sports associations in the district (minors and adults);
o driving of vehicles (always with the appropriate insurance);
o travel in the extra municipal offices in the activities required by their services.

Moreover the possibility to create programming and plans will be given to the volunteers; in these cases they will be "educators" and will realize different proposals in agreement with their capacities and interests: laboratories with educative finalities (theatre, cooking, music, etc.), tournaments, pleasure activity.

Horário: The weekly schedule of volunteers is of n.35 hours spread over five days a week (generally except Sunday but to verify in progress). The services have different time schedules that cover the whole day.
Generally speaking day care services usually open at 08:00 and close around 19:00.
Residential Services (Federica Community House, Casa Salvatore, project "La Vela Grande") also cover the evening and night. The hours will be defined jointly with the volunteers balancing their needs with the needs/demands of the services.
The possibility of variations is foreseen corresponding to different stages in the calendar especially between school period and summer. For summer there is the possibility to move on mountain or sea maintaining the timetable already defined for the volunteer

Condições: Volunteers live all together in a big apartment in the city centre, in
double or single rooms plus some common spaces. All apartment related
costs are covered by the hosting project.
Each volunteer receive an italian language course for at least 4 months.
Both a mentor and a tutor will support volunteers.
Each month the volunteer receive 125 euro for food, plus 115 euro as
monthly allowance. General basic food is also provided every two months
(pasta, milk, rice, biscuits, jam, etc...)
