Resumo: The “JOIN HANDS FOR EUROPE” will take place in Serbia and has as main themes: European Awareness and Youth Unemployment.
The main objectives are: promotes young people’s active citizenship in general and their European citizenship in particular; develops solidarity and promote tolerance among young people, in particular in order to foster social cohesion in the European Union; fosters mutual understanding between young people in different countries; contributes to developing the quality of support systems for youth activities and the capabilities of civil society organisations in the youth field; promotes European cooperation in the youth field.
This project is composed by 1 EVS activity that will start in January 2012 and finish in December 2012.
The project will be coordinated by ProAtlântico – Associação Juvenil, involving 1 sending organisation, 1 hosting organisations and 1 volunteer from Portugal.
The main aims of the project are: gain skills and competences based on non formal and informal learning that contribute to increase the chances of employability of young people specially with fewer opportunities and at the same time stimulate active participation in the society among young people.
In order to accomplish these aims, will be used non-formal education methods like: database of youth opportunities (jobs, trainings, seminars), workshops about ways to improve employability and awareness about volunteering as learning tool, presentations in schools and Universities about EVS and other Youth in Action opportunities, etc.
Perfil: The project “JOIN HANDS FOR EUROPE” requires that the volunteer must be very human self-motivated, creative, with self-initiative, willing to take on new challenges and good adaption to different realities and to live with different conditions they are used to in their original country.
The volunteer must be open minded and tolerant to work with people with fewer opportunities with different backgrounds and affected by different problems (ex: unemployment, education difficulties, coming from broken families/orphans, young people with mental disabilities, with low economic resources, high cultural differences, etc.).
The volunteer should bring something from own experiences, to enrich the hosting project and local community. Some previous experiences or high motivation to work with children and young people or knowledge about creative methods to implement in contexts with low economic and cultural resources can be an added value.
The volunteer should have motivation to help youngsters with fewer opportunities to discover special skills to increase their chances to be employed. The volunteers can have motivation to run workshops to unemployed young people about the benefits of participation in non-formal projects such as Youth in Action programme.
Tarefas: The chance to work with EVS volunteers from other countries, with different backgrounds is a challenge and an opportunity to exchange experiences and good practices between all people involved in the project and the local community.
The volunteer will take part in many different tasks, according to their interests, abilities and skills. They will plan together with the staff and mentor, the activities to be carried out during the weeks.
It won’t be any strict schedule settled from the beginning, just a draft one that will be adjusted and modified according to the hosting organisation activities and to the volunteer’s abilities.
With this project we want to give the volunteer the chance to experience the hosting country way of life, the culture as well as the non-formal education system promoted by the organisations.
The EVS Volunteer will work with the team that is already running this project and will help them in their tasks, by taking part in the meeting of all activities in which they will participate.
The EVS Volunteer will be encouraged to participate with own ideas and experiences and during the EVS experience will have the chance to introduce new activities according to their skills and interests and be able to participate in voluntary activities, always taking into account factors such as their characteristics, previous professional training and personal preferences.
We believe those aspects are fundamental to the volunteer’s integration and adaptation to the dynamics of the organisation in order to make him/her become part of the group.
TASKS OF THE VOLUNTEER:
The MEC is able to offer one of the following projects to Rita (in addition to five permanent annually and special annual projects implemented). Project on new ICT as a tool of communication between the blind and deaf young people to integrate them into the MEC projects.
Realization of different projects: The BOX of Erling Ericsson for Animation, Media Manual Media Literacy Award of the Austrian ministry of culture, youth Media4ME informative and creative Network or regions in Serbia and the Balkans with multiethnic population in all its activities MEC to the assistance of the volunteer.
MEC has enough organizational capacity to perform any tasks without hers support, but it relies on the strengthening of international relations and wants to offer its employees and students the opportunity to work with young people from different European countries, in order to maintain intercultural dialogue as one means used to promote creativity.
The tasks presented will be developed by the volunteer according to their profile and to the hosting organisation’s needs. The tasks weren’t designed to achieve profit, because the organization is non-profitable and doesn’t intend to make financial gain from its activities.
The EVS volunteer will work alongside the current team of staff to enable people’s access to all the opportunities opened to them and to ensure they reach their full potential. This will give the EVS volunteer new abilities and knowledge that can be used in future projects even within their own communities.
