Resumo: The hosting organization was instituted in 2000 as a mutual aid association that offers its members social and health assistance to complement the public health services. The hosting organization is a non-profit body and is based on the principles of mutuality and solidarity among its members: the economic contribution given by all members is used to help themselves, their relatives or other members. The hosting organizationcurrently counts 2000 members. The hosting organization offers the following services:
1. AMBULATORY SERVICES - Specialized medical visits- Nursing services
2. SENIOR DAY CARE CENTRE- Socio-medical assistance to elderly people who are alone or partially auto sufficient and present a high risk of social marginalisatio
n3. TRANSPORT SERVICES WITH AMBULANCE- transfers, dismissal/admissions from/to the hospital and medical visits- transport services for disabled people with ambulances, cars and special means Senior day care centre, which opened in 2007 is a semi-residential centre which hosts elderly persons, who are auto sufficient or have a limited autonomy, from Monday to Friday (from 9am to 5pm). The day centre offers global assistance based on personalized work plans which aim at increasing the elderly people’s quality of life. Through this service, the hosting organization wants to meet the elderly people’s needs of social and health assistance and most of all it aims at providing them with a welcoming space where they can meet and socialize.
Perfil: All people aged 18 - 30, who have a genuine interest and passion for working with people with disabilities and or elderly people.
No professional skills and experience is required, however it is recommended that volunteers have an experience in similar sector or providing support in personal life in order to have a realistic idea of working with people with disabilities. As we work with vulnerable adults, the volunteers should be kind, patient and compassionate. hobbies and skills that they are willing to share with the residents, such as art, music, cooking, drama, sports that can complement activities
Tarefas: Taking part to the daily life of the daily centre for elderly people ( 20 users, 1 educator, 4/5 social workers, volunteers), young people will take part of the work of social workers and educators in developing activities aiming at social inclusion of elderly people and the maintenance of skills and ability in senior people. Task of volunteers are supporting the employees during the activities such as workshops ( creative, art-lab, art-lab such as drawing, theatre, dance, or sports activity as swimming or playing bocce, basket, music both live music or listening), during welcoming and lunch time ( supporting during lunch in distributing dishes, helping some users, collecting dishes and clearing the room) or training and promotional activity for esc volunteers ( language course, youhpass or volunteeers club meetings ).
Another part of the project will be the promotion of active participation of young people through volunteering opportunity, this will be taking part to local initiatives ( exhibition, events, school meetings), making some communication campaign through social media and local media.
Volunteers are actively involved in shaping their ESC experiences and we encourage volunteers to bring their own ideas, skills and passions to share with the hosting association and the partners association in a community involvement
