Resumo: ICJA Freiwilligenaustausch weltweit e.V. was founded as a reconciliation program between the USA and Germany in 1949. Today ICJA organizes volunteer exchange programmes all over the world and the current management has long-standing experience in working with volunteers and partner organisations from over 40 different countries on all continents. ICJA is an independent, non-profit registered association recognised by the German government. Our aim is to facilitate respectful and open interaction between people from different cultures and backgrounds. We understand our exchange programmes as educational offers, which allow people to meet at eye level, to work together and to learn from each other. Anyone who supports the aims of ICJA is invited to become a member and volunteer coworker. The headquarter of ICJA is located in Berlin where currently 30 staff and 3 apprentices and 3 volunteers are working. A very important part of the work is done by voluntary coworkers in regional and local committees all over Germany.

ICJA's main projects and programmes focus on peace work, intercultural education and the promotion of active citizenship, global learning and social commitment. ICJA received the QUIFD certificate for »Quality in Voluntary Service« which is based on ten carefully defined quality aspects. ICJA coordinates and carries out a variety of exchange programmes for volunteering, like the EFD ( European Voluntary Service), the IJFD (International Youth Voluntary Service), the BFD (Federal Voluntary Service), "weltwärts" (sending and receiving to/from countries in the Global South), volunteer exchange programmes within the framework of our umbrella organisation, the "ICYE Federation" and the programme for volunteers of all ages above 26 (Ü26).

Since the 1990's ICJA has been a host co-ordinating and sending organisation for the European Voluntary Service programme. The main aim and focus of our host projects is to enable young people from all over Europe to work with and for youth with fewer opportunities and people with different abilities. We have long-standing cooperations with local associations working in these fields. ICJA is also cooperating with the National Agency in running the EVS on-arrival trainings and mid-term seminars for EVS volunteers in Germany. As sending organisation every year we send abroad several interested young people to participate in EVS projects in a variety of different European countries. The ICJA staff guides and advises candidates in their search for host projects, and supplies support throughout the whole year. As the learning and educational aspect of volunteering is especially important to us, EVS volunteers take part in a ten day training course before departing to their EVS experience.
