Resumo: The kindergarten "Domschlösschen" is situated in the centre of our nice Old Town in Nordhausen next to the dome. From the kindergarten you can arrive the centre of city by foot.
Nordhausen, with its 45.000 inhabitans, is situated in the very North of Thuringia, close to both Saxony Anhalt and Lower Saxony. Nearby you also find the Harz mountains, a beloved area for excursions, climbing, trekking, bike riding and activity holidays. The Harz also houses Germany's second highest mountain, the Brocken.
The oldest source, in which Nordhausen is mentioned, can be traced back to the year of 927. The first industry, a spirits factory, settled in Nordhausen around 1500. The people of Nordhausen did not only experience an upswing in the economy. Huge parts of the city were damaged from several great fires (in 1540, 1686, 1710 and 1712).
With the concentration camp "Mittelbau Dora" situated nearby, where 60.000 prisoners were forced to work and produce the V1- and V2 rockets between 1943 and 1945, Nordhausen was part of the history of the Second World War. Around 20.000 convicts died in prisonment.
On the 3rd and 4th of April 1945, only a few weeks before the war would be over, 74% of the inner city was destroyed by the British Airforce, killing 8.800 people as well. Thereby, Nordhausen was one of the most damaged cities of the former German Democratic Republic (DDR).
Today Nordhausen is the industrial and cultural centre of Northern Thuringia:
Industrial mainly because of the excavator- production and the traditional spirits factory "Nordbrand". Culturally, Nordhausen offers theatre, a cinema, different museums, the concentration camp "Mittelbau Dora" and several other sights. Discos, nice and friendly pubs, restaurants, a city park, a shopping mall, bowling centres, an indoor swimming pool, our rope course and the climbing tower also contribute to the wide range of spare time offers.

Work and Learning Possibilities
According to their interest and potential the young volunteer will be integrated in all daily activities.
The open mindedness of our children and staff members will make it easy for the volunteer to feel comfortable in the team.
He or she will get to know our by age subdivided groups of children and our way of care and education according to Friedrich Fröbel.
The "Domschlösschen" offers the young volunteer the possibility to gain, to broaden or to deepen their experience and knowledge together with the children and the pedagogical team.
Especially daily activities like singing, telling stories, handicrafts, forming, cooperation with staff members and parents, developing projects supports the learning and strengthening of German as a forreign language.
Furthermore he/she can deepen her/his social and organizational skills by working in a team, planning and organizing projects.
Our proven methods for intercultural learning and the various cultural backgrounds of the young volunteers are the foundation to create new intercultural projects to encourage the children to tolerance and curiosity for different cultures and ways of life.
Besides that we have a cooperation with the secondary school and sports club, which are situated close to us.
On a regular basis teachers and students of the secondary school dramatic arts class invite our children to stage plays, which incorporate the children as an active part.
Due to the cooperation with the sports club we can use the gym hall once per week.
In the framework of both cooperations the volunteer is required to create his/her own play- and sportsprograms, projects, which he/she can offer during his/her voluntary service.
In our own kitchen we daily cook a diverse meal according to a healthy diet.
With this intention the volunteer may cook some typical meals from of his/her country.
Our staff members are open for any new ideas and suggestions.
As far as possible the volunteer will be included in the decision-making-processes.

Perfil: Age: 18-25 years, German language skills, we focus especially disadvantaged people.

The volunteer, who we would like to host in our nursery school should love the work with children. During the handling with children he or she should have some social competences. They should be sensible, patient, sympathically, open minded and consistent. They should be able to communicate with children on a dialogue level. Every Volunteer has an individual background on experience and faculties. The personal skills and interests for example arts, aesthetic, music, dancing and theatre, sports and mathematics, natural science can be yielded in the daily work. We are certain, that the kindergarten as an institution as well as the everyday work greatly benefits by the personal experience and cultural background of the volunteer. Also important are reliability, responsibility and teamwork just as the willingness to extend the existing German language skills. As our staff doesn´t have a remarkable level of english knowledge we do have to insist on a basic knowledge of German making possible the daily communication. Furthermore we would wish us volunteers, who can also speak english as a foreign language to create english workshops for the children. We would be very happy to host also male volunteers in our institution.

Tarefas: The volunteers role
The special spatial and pedagogical frameworks of the "Domschlösschen" offer the volunteer extensive initiatives for all kinds of tasks and activities.
The development and implementation of activities based on the volunteers interests will be discussed by the volunteer and staff members together.
During the service the volunteer will work with one group of children most of the time, where he/she has the possibility to create short-termed projects with a restricted number of children.
There is enough margin to realize her/his own ideas, interests within this group. Furthermore her/his task is to help the nursery school teacher in the daily care of the children and to give the work new impulses along the way.
They can take a part in all daily activities, regarding to their interests.
Certainly it is also possible to offer workshops and activities for all children in the kindergarten.

Activities of the volunteer
- Development, preparation, planning of time-contrained projects or activities (music, arts, aesthetics, sports) according to their yearlong program
- Developing sportsgames and activities, which can be realized at the grounds outdoor even when the wether conditions are not good
- Support of sports-activities in the gym hall
- Accompanying field trips in the surrounding area
- Development and realization of intercultural education projects
- German- English workshops / German - Mother tongue workshops
Development and realization of playful language offers, language study travel in the kindergarten, stories, etc. in english and also in the mother-tongue
- Preperation and support of the intercultural stage plays between the kindergarten and the secondary school
- Help in the preparation of a healthy diet

We expect from our staff members and also from our vollunteers, that they will support the children in every acceptable tasks.

Condições: The working conditions in our project are related to the needs of our children. We will make sure that our volunteers will never be alone with a whole group. During the own workshops of the volunteers a nursery teacher will support them or the group will be split.
The volunteers will live in a flat-sharing community with other European volunteers. Everyone will have his/her own room but they will share bathroom and kitchen. In the flat exist all necessary furniture and electrical equipments. We will provide bed clothes and towels. The volunteers have to clean the flat by themselves.
We don't plan to host underage volunteers.
To avoid or to work on homesickness we consciously incorporate the peer group of volunteers. We developed special rituals to facilitate the settle-in the project.
We use every contact with the flat-sharing community to ask about our new volunteers to intervene if necessary.
We think that the contact with other young people is as important as the contact with the other volunteers. So we buy our volunteers a special card for trains, which offers a discount on the tickets. This helps them to stay in personal contact with their new friends, even with them from the seminars organised by the National Agency.
All our volunteers take part in a private language training "German as a foreign language" . The volunteers get a individual language training based on their level of knowledge. The language course normally takes place once a week for 90 minutes.
During the first three months of the voluntary service the volunteers will get an insight into the daily routine of the project and they will learn the used methods.
After this first three-months period, the volunteers should be able to offer small workshops regarding to their own interests and skills to the children. Therefore we talk to them about their ideas and wishes but also about their fears and expectations. Furthermore we assist our volunteers with developing a schedule and realising the workshop.
Almost every young person knows the structure of a kindergarten from their own experience, so that the volunteer´s can´t be so wrong.
We have a tutor in every hosting project (trained by our German National Agency). As the team is quite small there is almost every day the posibility of getting in contact with the tutor.
The staff members working in the administration of the JugendSozialwerk Nordhausen e.V. will use every opportunity to get in personal contact with the volunteers. Furthermore they are responsible for keeping the contact with the sending organisation, controlling the compliance made in the project description and in the Activity Agreement and organising joint activities between the volunteers from the different hosting projects of the JugendSozialwerk Nordhausen e.V.
We carry out regular meetings between the volunteer, the contact person from the administration, the leader of the hosting project and the tutor of the volunteer.

Documentação: Please fill in the 2 documents in GERMAN and send them back to us. Furthermore we need a CV and motivation letter from you.
