Resumo: The hosting organization is a Life-Sharing Community supporting adults with different abilities. It provides residential and day-care in the form of training, therapy and meaningful work for people with disabilities. Our intention, as a Life-Sharing Community is to create a home rather than an institution. We aim to provide a living and working environment that is conducive to a feeling of well-being, physical and emotional security, stability and belonging.
Many or our residents and learners with special needs also come from disadvantaged socio/economic backgrounds, family issues, mental health and/or alcohol problems. We in Kingsriver Community believe that people with disabilities have the right to dignity and respect, to grow, develop and pursue their aspirations, the same as other citizens – even though they may need extra support and education to do so. We consider that a quality life is one where people participate in their community, gain the respect of others, enjoy meaningful relationships, use skills, exercise choices and have opportunities to express themselves. Kingsriver advocates for inclusion and the breaking down of barriers and stereotypes around people with special needs. We are committed to providing quality person centered opportunities for people of various abilities and support them to realize their full potential as contributing members of society.We aim to do this by:
• Providing a safe and comfortable living environment, a warm and welcoming atmosphere in a life-sharing model;
• Providing a high standard of care and promoting the health and well-being of all members of our household and workshop;
• Providing an environment where all members of our household and training workshop are valued equally;
• Providing a range of activities and experiences that enable each person to develop and reach their full potential;
• Supporting each person to be active in the local and wider community.Kingsriver is located in the countryside. It is a mixed gender Community accommodating up to 4 residents, 3 staff and 4 volunteers in the main residential house and up to 2 residents and 2 volunteers in the adjacent Coach House.
Perfil: While we do not look for formal qualifications, we find that our Project is suited to flexible people who have a good sense of humour & strong motivation. We prioritize candidates with a good level of English as we provide formal training where volunteers need to read, learn & understand our work's policies & procedures. This is necessary to comply with Irish law for people who work with vulnerable individuals. It is important that candidates have an interest in working in disability & are available for ONE year. We also prioritize applicants of 22 years of age & older as we work with adults
Tarefas: Volunteers support & enhance those activities & help our target group to become more independent & better included in society. This happens through our weekly programmes, dialogue, teamwork & activities such as art & crafts, sport, gardening, woodwork, cooking. I.T skills, etc. Tolerance, acceptance & empathy to people being different are the main features volunteers encounter. They learn a lot of practical & organizational skills AND a lot about themselves.
Condições: This is a LIFE-SHARING COMMUNITY therefore volunteers live AND work in the same place. So, accommodation is in one of the residential houses in Kingsriver Community. Volunteers have their own bedroom and share a bathroom. Our meals are shared and we take turns cooking. Volunteers look after themselves on their days off. We are located in a rural area and have our own mini bus that travels to the City every day. It take approx 15mins.
