Resumo: Project themes: European awareness, Education through sport and outdoor activities

The Free Rudolf Steiner School Leipzig was founded in 1990 and accommodates about 350 students. The Rudolf Steiner School leads students from grade 1 to grade 13, ending with the degree of the German „Abitur“. A Rudolf Steiner Kindergarten is associated with the school.
The Rudolf Steiner pedagogy pursues a holistic approach within children's mental and intellectual education. The curriculum is structured by the students' stages of development and aims at supporting and developing intellectual, mental and physical skills appropriate for the respective age. With this, the Rudolf Steiner School attempts to develop a wide range of knowledge, skills and abilities for students to cope with the ever-changing demands of society and the world of specialized profession.
The day nursery offers a mentoring programme in the afternoon for grades 1-4 and the programme of clubs for older pupils is currently being expanded.
The staff of the Free Rudolf Steiner school consists of around 50 members. Two members are directly involved in the project. Moreover, there are between 50 and 100 voluntary helpers working at the school.

Perfil: We would like to see the following: Interest in working with children, autonomy, open-mindedness, own ideas. We are little focused on specific selection criteria, having a great potential of integration.

Tarefas: The children and young people in Eastern Germany have hardly the possibility top get intercultural competences. Therefore we see the volunteers as a big enrichment. The children can get to know people from other European countries; can learn something about their habits and the cultural distinctions. The volunteers have the possibility to learn to know themselves and their origin in a new way and to get new ideas for their own life.

In our school we offer different application possibilities for volunteers. They can work both in the kindergarten, in the Hort (class 1-4) or in the all-day school (class 5-8).

Possible tasks are:
- Offerings (playing, crafting) for children in the kindergarten and Hort
- attendance of the children while having their meals
- realization of projects in which the home country is presented
- attendance of children with special needs or handicaps
- exchange with older students about different topic (for example Europe, experiences abroad, prejudices, how to learn foreign languages)
- sitting in on classes and attendance in the classes

For us it important to accompany the volunteers and to arrange the tasks customized. The volunteers can work closely together with the staff of the school or can develop own projects - according to their abilities and interests. So we can show an interest in the wishes, interests and abilities of the volunteers and can offer them intensive and skilled help. Volunteer who need more help can get this and volunteers who do not need this can work more autonomously.

The volunteers can get different insights during their EVS. They can experience how in a free German school things are taught and children are looked after. They have the chance to compare notes with other volunteers, to get to know other people, to check their pictures and prejudices. They can get closer to a part of Europe and can learn to know themselves as Europeans. This is encouraged by living in a shared flat with other volunteers. The LeISA GmbH / Soziokulturelles Zentrum "Die VILLA" encourages the exchange of young people by organizing the shared flat and intercultural offers (e.g. the Leipziger Sprachenabend). Furthermore joint projects are possible and can be supported.

We also offer the volunteers a deeper insight into the pedagogic of Rudolf Steiner. They can assist children with special needs, can take part in art and handwork classes or can take part in school trips. For example it is possible to assist the 5th class while having their "Greek Olympics" which is organized by a Rudolf-Steiner-School in Thüringen every year. This event lasts one week and contains topical classes and competitions are hold.

As a self-adminitrative school we with the support of 240 families we are open to any kind of integration for the volunteers.

Horário: The volunteers work 5 days a week between 30 and 35 hours a week. Language courses are working time.

Condições: Young people with special needs are welcome in our organisation. But we can not host people with physical handicaps because of the flat for the volunteers.
We can offer support in economical, cultural, geographical, social oder educational disadvantages with the help of our different employees and the help of the dfifferent volunteers.

Volunteers will receive counselling from a tutor in the project. Task, fields of work and projects will be structured, accompanied and discussed.
From the side of the coordinating organisation, the volunteer coordinator will meet with the volunteers monthly, to review, counsel and advise on the work within their EVS.
The Volunteers live together in a shared apartment which is provided by the coordinating organisation.
Attendance of the staff meetings in the host organisation is possible.
A group of ex-volunteers is available as an offer to make the volunteer's integration easier.
