Resumo: The activities of the volunteers will take place mainly in the city where the Center is based Europe Direct and where the volunteers will stay. It is a city of about 60,000 inhabitants in Italy, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993. The incredible landscape and artistic heritage has made Matera one of the main goals of experiential tourism in recent years, as well an important center of reference for the creative and cultural industries sector.
The town hosts one of the offices of the University, the National Music Conservatory, several cinemas and numerous associations that promote development and social inclusion through various cultural forms and offering a rich calendar of events aimed at young and old people.
All these unique characteristics have meant that Matera in October 2014 has been chosen as European Capital of Culture for 2019, goal achieved thanks to a great commitment from part of public and private actors in the drafting of a high quality project based on the social participation and sustainable development.
Among the activities planned for the three year period 2018-2020, our Center has started a network project with the aim of stimulating the creation of projects that allow the connection also through funding from the various direct and indirect Commission European programs. For this reason, Europe Direct will be increasingly active throughout the regional territory and, thanks to the presence of EVS volunteers, the organization intends to intensify and branch out collaborations with public bodies, companies and third sector actors, with the aim of making them known the opportunities put in place by Europe, such as calls, initiatives and actions that, more often than not, are not exploited to the fullest in a region characterized from small municipalities, morphologically isolated and afflicted by a high rate of unemployment e juvenile depopulation, as well as serious environmental problems that affect health of citizens.
Perfil: good English, basic Italian, interest in EU topic, applicants from EU ONLY (priority will be given to volunteers from other EU capitals of culture).
Age: 18-30
Tarefas: The volunteers will be involved in all the activities of the Europe Direct Center through a gradual participation based on the attitudes and inclinations of individuals, always with the support of expert members of the organization. The volunteers will not be passive spectators but active actors in organizing and carrying out our planning. The space dedicated to their personal contribution is a fundamental element to increase the sense of belonging and of responsibility, in order to establish virtuous synergies between volunteers and employees that can allow volunteers to learn as much as possible from this experience.
The main initiatives that the Europe Direct Center has set itself for the three year period 2018-2020, in addition to the network, are:
– Dialogues with citizens: public meetings with the citizens of Basilicata, who will face different topics of great interest to the territories, organized in the presence of European Commission officials , of the various General Directorates of Brussels and of the representations in Italy;
– InfoDay: cycle of meetings to deepen European programs and funding for local authorities, Companies, Youth and Third Sector (thematic calls, mobility abroad, study / work in Europe, ERASMUS + programs, Horizon, Interreg, Cosme, Life … etc). In particular infoDay will be dedicated to the European Parliament elections of 2019 and to the initiatives promoted in the fields of the European projects of Materahub; – Europe in everyday life (format for schools): cycle of meetings in schools of every order and degree to tell young people how Europe is part of everyday life and which are the opportunities that can be grasped for traveling, studying and working in the 28 EU countries;
– The European celebrations: initiatives promoted by the European Commission during the calendar year, like the Europe Day (9 May) or other thematic celebrations that the Commission stimulates to promote on the territories every month.
Specifically, the volunteers will be involved in the following activities:
– documentation of the activities and updating of the site and of the other information tools (social media, press releases, letters of invitation, etc.);
– orientation for institutions, businesses and young people looking for opportunities in Europe;
– technical support to local stakeholders in applying for European calls through the help desk;
– drafting summary sheets of European calls for potential interest;
– planning of meetings and workshops in schools and universities;
– organizing events to promote European projects;
– participation in the planning and implementation of events.
