All the applications will be forward to us from SFERA. As Hosting Organization, library will have biggest say in the selection and at the same time SFERA will be involved with a consultative role, and discusses together with the hosting organization. We will read all the applications, we will contact a few candidates, and have further contact with them. Usually we provide candidates with contacts and they are able to speak to the current or former volunteers, also to make sure that this project is really of their interest and that they think that they will get what they expect.
Person who decides for EVS has to understand that s/he is coming into new environment. It would be nice if the volunteer will be interested in making social service in Russia. Our library works with different programmes, so we want someone who is adversative and is willing to work on different fields. If the volunteer is youngster with less possibilities, s/he can make a pre-visit in our organization. If the volunteer doesn't have any skills or competences, we will try to keep her/him open to learn new things and be ready to meet some difficulties during this process and take it as positive and useful experience.
All the candidatures are discussed and selected on the following criteria:
- motivation to work with youth, children, adults and old people;
- readiness to work hard, because it's not so easy to work in the different conditions, with international - team, with other educational system and in the other language;
- readiness to learn Russian and to communicate in Russian;
- readiness to promote his\her own national culture.
The most important criteria is strong motivation to do voluntary service and learn a lot from the project!
Our library is experienced organisations in hosting EVS volunteers and always divide staff work and work of volunteers. EVS volunteers always realize only project activities, and if they still have a motivation to do more they have a possibility to lead their own mini-project, like workshops for orphans or individual caring on child, so this is additional service for local children or youth.
Type of the Sending Organization could be any. We would prefer to have volunteer, strongly supported not only by us and SFERA, but also by Sending Organization.
Tarefas: The projects will give the experience of international work for the volunteers, as well as practice in communication with people from different background. During the project the volunteers will practice public presentation skills, project management, individual consulting, and work in a team. Besides the volunteers will improve their linguistic skills. The project will help volunteers to break stereotypes.
The volunteer would be an additional person who could add his/her ideas to create an intercultural and multilingual dimension for the library. Intercultural learning from the childhood can be only achieved by means of personal contacts and communication. The daily work with children offers a wide variety of exchange possibilities (music and songs, dance, story telling & of course, literature …). Creating an open mind and an interest in discovering other languages and countries is achieved in a very natural way based on a daily contact and exchange - it becomes a sort of natural effect of becoming familiar with each other.
The children will have access to other languages, other cultures and will naturally learn intercultural openness and positive interest. The employees of the library will get an intercultural surrounding at their work place. The volunteer and the children can benefit from each other. The work with children offers many ways of exchange.
The main process of the projects is learning process. Volunteer will learn by non-formal way with support of staff of the library, mentor and coordinator. They will evaluate together regularly and speak about competences, which the volunteer reached and is going to reach. Mentor and coordinator will help volunteer to realize her/his learning process and at the end of the project create Youthpass certificate.
The volunteer will have a social role in the library, and be in contact with children. S/he will assist in the daily work in the library, including administrative and informative tasks.
The primary activities of the volunteers are:
1. Helping with organization of a study group for the smallest readers of the foreign literature, including games, competitions, songs and dances.
2. Participation in the events and actions organized by employees of the library. Take an active role in communication with children, in preparation materials, in inventing new ideas.

Each volunteer will have separated room, because it is important to have privacy for the volunteers. Volunteers will be provided with necessary kitchen equipment and bed-linen. Nizhniy Novgorod is a very big city, so the way from home to the city centre can take 1-1,5 hours (like in any big city).
