Resumo: The Kindergarten is a public educational centre in the Mokotów district of Warsaw. It has good transport facilities and is situated close to the centre.
There are about 100 children aged from 3 to 6 years old in the four grades of the kindergarten. We are open from 7:00 a.m. till 5:30 p.m. September to June with some additional availability during the summer months. Most significant thing is the school has been designated to provide for children with special medical dietary needs. This is ensured by the in-house dietician.
By creating an atmosphere of understanding and cooperation of both the Parents' Council and the Council of Education we ensure that the children are raised in a friendly and supportive environment to become inspired and open-minded young people. We provide a lot of extra activities for children in very well equipped classrooms or outside on a playground which belongs.
Perfil: We are looking for volunteers aged between 18 and 30 years, legally residing in one of the Program or Partner Countries. We seek a balance of varied ages, genders and nationalities amongst our volunteers.
We are not looking for experienced volunteers but those that would learn a lot during the service in a given receiving organization.
Apart from personal motivation of volunteers our requirement is volunteers' strong will of learning Polish language after selection procedure successfully ends. We need selected volunteers to know a few crucial phrases and already have substantial vocabulary of Polish at the moment they start their project. Why is this important? Because they will work with disabled children and youth, which often does not speak English or any other language.
Tarefas: There are 4 age groups (3, 4, 5, 6 years old) in the kindergarten. For the first 2 months volunteer will be offered to get to know the specifics of working in each of these groups, so they will work two weeks in each group. After this period the volunteer will decide which group activities are the most interesting and challenging and will start working in selected group. There will be a possibility for them to change the group after 2 months. Generally, the volunteer will participate in regular activities in one group of children within the kindergarten.
Mainly volunteer will assist the children in everyday activities and help them with dressing, meals, toilet. Support the teachers in organizing educational activities and preparing materials and activities for special events. It would be good to present the culture, tradition, cuisine of the country of origin of the volunteer by making presentations prepared together with the teachers of the kindergarten and with their help in form of activities for the children in the group. Volunteers will be engaged in help in the preparation of the annual or specific activities/events for parents and children (e.g. festival of tulips, international day of selected country, grandmother/grandfathers’ day). One of the tasks is to prepare specific exercises for the whole group and contribute new ideas. The volunteer could later adapt these exercises to different age groups and facilitate them in different groups. As kindergarten provides extra activities outside, volunteer will be obliged to accompany the group in trips outside the kindergarten (e.g. theatre, zoo).
Other ativities. The volunteer:
will be invited to participate in 5 study visits in institutions related to special and integrative education. During each visit participants will be introduced by special/integrative education experts how to work with people with special needs and organize integrative activities.
will prepare together a happening promoting inclusion of people with disabilities and to pay attention to problems that those persons face in public spaces. The happening will be organized in a public place at least twice.
will write blogs dedicated to their experience in the form of articles, photographs, audio/video materials. If you secretly dream of becoming a published author – you are in luck! Each month the volunteers write (at least) one article about their volunteering experiences in Poland. These posts are published on the Foundation’s website and/or Facebook.
will take part in preparation of the Parade&ville, events organized by CO to celebrate Europe Day in the center. Volunteers together with their RO and CO will plan&organize one tent in ville devoted to European volunteering & raising awareness about the needs of people with disabilities.
will take part in “internal on-arrival training” organized by the Coordinating Organization. The first days followed by volunteers’ arrival will be spent altogether, not in particular Receiving Organization. The Coordinating Organization will prepare integration activities, trainings and will deal with some organizational things.
will participate in monthly meetings. Once a month all the volunteers will have a meeting in the Foundation and occasionally outside the Foundation. These meetings organized to spend time all together with volunteers and coordinators, the coordinators always prepare activities for the volunteers: concerning evaluation of last month, preparing common activities or just integrating
