Resumo: The purpose of this project is to provide opportunities and resources for young volunteers to engage and participate in a social and human service to the benefitof mentally disabled people.

Residents' needs are the same as ours

Basic needs (food, housing, ensure satisfactory conditions of hygiene and appropriate medical monitoring, need for structure , need for autonomy and self-determination , security and social need to avoid feelings of anxiety and to establish positive interpersonal relationships .

The objective is to accommodate 27 people with intellectual disabilities in structuring and nurturing educational environment taking into account individual issues of the experience of the person in partnership with the family and all social workers. We also want to allow the person an optimum development at all levels: autonomy , emotional, physical , psychological .

Educational staff assists people in all activities of daily life by adapting management based on ability. He performs health social acts , nursing and educational social events. It develops recurrent workshops for occupational and educational purpose . Educators put in the resident at the center of interest, marking a reassuring presence . Community life encourages interaction between each other ; by this fact , strong links are created.

In general , this project aims to:

• promote active citizenship in general and an European citizenship in particular;

• develop solidarity and promote tolerance among young people,

• foster mutual understanding between young people in different countries;

In particular , volunteers will have:

- Experience of integration in a team pursuing the same goal;

- Meet young people from other European and American countries in the institution where the accommodation is provided;

- Take new initiatives, bring different ideas, present their views , promote their culture.

Perfil: Age: 18-30

Tarefas: The volunteer takes an active role in the home by providing assistance to the educational team.

During these periods, his main role is to assist and support educators in the implementation of activities. He participates to bring his own animation ideas through predefined schedule of activities.

In addition, the volunteer can, if desired, create, organize , create an activity according to their own tastes, individually or collectively. To this end, after a period of initiation and integration , he will be asked to propose a personal project which will be discussed and implemented in consultation with the teaching team in respect of the resident's individual project.

The personal volunteer's project can be built initially for the following activities : courses in drawing, painting , reading, writing , sports , gardening, ....

Outside these periods, he accompanies and helps people with disabilities in all activities of daily life such as during meals.

Functional and specific tasks according to the needs of the service may be requested such as preparing meals (lunch / dinner), help put shoes in the morning , accompany a resident to an appointment , etc ...
