Resumo: Caritas of Ferrara-Comacchio is a parish in their diocese, which has been operating since 1989, responding to many situations of poverty and hardship in the territory of Ferrara.
The people who turn to Caritas create a colourful macrocosm united by the common factor of hardship. 90% of the people we assist are foreign; they are adults, men and women, of different origins and cultures, immigrants, people without homes, drug addicts, prostitutes, single mothers, and poor families. Caritas of Ferrara-Comacchio offers the following services without discrimination:
- A meal center that provides 220 hot meals a day, seven days a week. - Bathing services and the distribution of personal hygiene products. - Distribution services of clothing and non-perishable foods items donated by wholesales, supermarkets, or private groups. - An information desk to help strangers with questions who need to orient themselves in the area. The aim of all our activities is not only to distribute the donations and relate with and listen to those that approach us for help, but also to create a climate of trust and harmony in which the person feels free to open up and confide in us so that we can help to identify their needs. The next step is to restore hope in those people who are looking for solutions tailored to their needs and direct them to local services that are able to help.

Perfil: pragmatic and outgoing volunteers with a strong propensity to listen and observe without judgement.
- What we seek in our volunteers is the desire to get in touch, build relationships with respect and enthousiasm; - We are looking for people whose attitudes towards life and work allow them to share a part of themselves with us. We are happy to welcome people that want to get involved and join a path of growth; - You should choose our project because of the unique experience and development you'll gain, NOT ONLY because of the country and the language ! - As the major part of the volunteers' activities will centre around communication, it would be favourable if the volunteers had a basic knowledge of Italian when they arrive (some words and basic expressions to start a conversation).

Tarefas: The proposed activities are simple and straightforward but must be viewed as a means to communicate, understand, and enter into a relationship with the people who have knocked on the door of Caritas; without being intrusive, the activities provide a practical response to a essential need for connection. The meal center plays a major role in our activities. Serving meals in the meal center or helping to prepare the food helps the volunteers to gain knowledge of the people who use the meal center and their needs and problems. Another activity in which volunteers will be involved during the mornings will be the shower services and the distribution of products for personal hygiene. Related to this, we propose the involvement of volunteers with the collection and distribution of second-hand clothing and non-perishable food. The EVS volunteers will also be involved with the Caritas internal help desk. This is a listening point where volunteers can provide information to the foreigner who comes and needs to orient themselves in a new environment
