Resumo: The Venerabile Arciconfraternita di Misericordia di Firenze will host 2 volunteers in three service locations. In all selected locations the EVS volunteers will have the opportunity to “serve” with Misericordia di Firenze’s staff and volunteers and will be able to use all available equipments as required by the planned services.
In Firenze, the scheduled service hours will be split among the three locations; detailed planning will be finalised locally by the service managers, the tutors and the volunteers.
1. Arciconfraternita di Misericordia di Firenze - Piazza Duomo, 19/20
The Misericordia di Firenze has been operating since1244, applying its values of Charity towards those in need, Gratuity of all provided services, and Anonymity of those who serve the community. The Misericordia has evolved throughout the centuries, adapting its organisation and the provided services according to the demand and needs of the local community.
Currently at the Misericordia headquarters located in Piazza Duomo 19/20 all management and strategic planning activities are carried out. These concern the broad range of services implemented on a daily basis in the Firenze area: social support, healthcare clinics, transport services for ill people, first-aid/emergency transport, civil protection aid, temporary housing for homeless people or for families in economic downturns, residential services for elderly, day-care centres for elderly and people with disabilities, social finance services.
2. Servizio di Aiuto Alimentare @Sezione Oltrarno - Via del Sansovino 182
The Service represents an important “safeguard” for people in need, providing food and other goods to approximately 500 families in Firenze.
Goods are distributed in the nearby store and in other small distribution centres around the city, named “Le Dodici Ceste” (the “Twelve Baskets” of bread from the Matthew’s Gospel).
For those people and families who cannot shop at the stores, home delivery is organised every month. Approximately 130 people benefit from this service and receive the so-called “pacchi” (parcels) containing food and pantry.
EVS volunteers will spend 10-12 hours/week (over 2 or 3 days) at the Aiuto Alimentare.
3. Residenza per anziani autosufficienti “Il Bobolino” - Via Dante da Castiglione, 13
The residential structure “Il Bobolino” is located at the foot of the beautiful Piazzale Michelangelo hill. It is a historical residence, built in the XIX century, which was initially used as a hospital.
118 self-sufficient elderly people live at the Bobolino, supported by healthcare professionals and other staff in charge of social and cultural activities. In this respect, 3 full-time animators work there, for physical activity, entertainment and cultural/leisure activities.
Activities will be carried out in the “common spaces”: large living room with desks; TV set; piano; small theatre; small gym; billiard room; the garden.
EVS volunteers will spend 10-12 hours/week (over 2 or 3 days) at the residence Il Bobolino.
Tarefas: The EVS volunteers will contribute in an active way to the functioning of the selected services. They will be regularly supported by the Misericordia di Firenze tutors and will operate together with the local staff and volunteers. They will be encouraged to creatively provide inputs and suggestions to enrich and/or innovate the services, making the best of their background experiences and know-how. Throughout the project period, the EVS volunteers will be involved in programming events/meetings where they will have the opportunity to express their ideas and participate in service planning.
In general, the following tasks will be carried out on a weekly basis:

The volunteers are jointly responsible to keep it and deliver it in good condition at the end of the project. In case the volunteers have special needs (e.g. due to allergies) that should be mentioned before the project starts so that the hosting organisation can provide to the due arrangements.
