Resumo: Special Kindergarten No 393 is an educational establishment for physically disabled children (cerebral spastically, genetics definitive etc.). There are 35 children aged 3-10 divided into 4 groups. Each of them needs care and help in everyday activities to some extent. As children usually are, our pupils are also opened to new contacts, however, sometimes an effort is necessary to gain their trust. Verbal contact is difficult as most of pupils does not speak but they can be cheerful and joyful and establish emotional contact.
The pedagogical team is supported by specialists that lead different therapeutic activities (such as speech therapy, dog therapy and others). The Special Kindergarten No 393 can offer the volunteers new learning opportunities. For volunteers interested in working with disabled people this EVS project could be a unique chance to make use of already gained knowledge and experience as well as to gain new experience, practical skills such as organizational, communicational, foreign language, team spirit, creativity, etc., to gain knowledge on therapeutic methods, to participate in the therapy of pupils in school and to pursue their own initiatives.

Perfil: We are looking for 1 more volunteer from an EU country who will not need visa for coming to Poland and who will be able to travel to Poland by bus or train (The Baltic State, Hungary, Austria, Slovenia, Czech Republic etc.). We already have a volunteer from Germany, therefore we prefer the other one from a different country. The volunteer can be of any gender and any background. The most important is that he/she is interested and motivated to work with mentally and physically disabled children and try to be open-minded, tolerant, patient and persistent persons that enjoy challenges. The candidate should have a team spirit but also should be able to work independently. An advantage would be creativity and motivation to learn at least basic Polish. As the target group is quite demanding, it would be an asset, if the volunteer hosted in our special kindergarten have some basic knowledge in the field of disability, mainly physical disability. Nevertheless, this is not a demand because all skills and knowledge to carry out the proposed tasks can be acquired during the Service.

Tarefas: Volunteers participate in the classes and help the staff. They help changing children’s clothes, feeding the children or help them eat their meals, go to the toilet. Most of the activities are group oriented but, like in any other kindergarten, children spend most of the time playing, so the volunteers play with them a lot. They can also plan educational group games and/or individual work process for one child, all under supervision of an educator. Volunteers are also involved in preparations of festivities for the occasion of traditional Polish holidays. Volunteers can learn a lot about different methods of working with children with various disabilities. They have a chance to see therapeutic meetings, learn about adapted computer programs and didactic tools. At the same time, the volunteers will have space for their own creativity. In order to establish contact with the co-workers and children easier, Polish learning support will be provided. The volunteers will also have a possibility to work on the Kindergarten’s website, where there is information about kindergarten events and everyday tasks. The volunteers will always be supported by the teachers and therapists.
