Resumo: The Cooperativa was founded in 1999 by members of the Associazione Culturale to transform the abandoned medieval village into a thriving Ecovillage focused on sustainable living at all levels. To develop local activities and be registered as a fully licenced enterprise, the cooperative created a cultural centre and a guesthouse in a large part of the village, now completed refurbished and open to the public. The centre includes bedrooms for holiday accommodation, a restaurant, training facilities for courses and workshops and a little library.
The cooperative employs six people, mostly women, and is largely supported by the resident community in daily chores like cooking, shopping and cleaning. The guesthouse dining area and meeting rooms are shared by the resident community, the volunteers and the guests; buffet meals are served at fixed times, and everyone eats together at large tables either in one of the three dining rooms or on the terraces. The Cooperativa is a member of national professional networks. The aims of the organization are to:
- develop and manage cultural programs and ecotourism activities in the Ecovillage, including training courses, conferences, concerts, tours on foot and by bike- provide a welcoming location for organised groups focused on sustainability-related topics, on personal wellbeing and development, on social and political issues- encourage, support and promote the production of local organic food, including high quality olive oil, organic vegetables and fruits, baked products, different kinds of preserves
- promote the development of local economy through cooperation with other enterprises, associations, individuals and the public administrations- create work opportunities for the residents of the Ecovillage and the local population.
As the cultural centre / guesthouse is open to the general public, target groups of the Cooperative are ecologically-oriented persons of all ages, families and groups. About 50% of the guests are Italian, and 50% foreigners.
