Resumo: The mission of the Calvary Fund is restoration of Calvary in Banská Štiavnica – sacral complex of churches and chapels– which became recently seriously endangered. Few years ago it was on the list of 100 the most endangered monuments in the world. Together with its recontstruction we want to make it again place for cultural, religious and touristic activities.
We were established in 2008 and except professional workers and restorators, the involment of volunteers is a big part of our mission. Thanks to EVS volunteers we run small exhibition in one of the churches and we, sometimes also with help of other volunteers, maintain the site area.
We are also running a youth hostel in the town and scout campsite in surrounding mountains.
Since 2006 we host usually 2-5 EVS volunteers every year. Our aim is to make activities being useful to society and to voluteers as well.

Tarefas: # 1: Information service at the Calvary expozition and other activities connected with Calvary
The Calvary exhibition is opened daily from spring to autumn and on public holidays from 10.00 to 17.00. During the service, you will be responsible for opening the churches, providing information to the tourists and selling souvenirs.
Other tasks are related to the maintenance of the whole area which includes manual jobs such as mowing, cleaning, raking, and being leader of volunteer workcamps which we organize during the summer.
In some cases, if you have the skills, you can help us with administration like translation of leaflets, info panel design, photodocumentation ect.

# 2: Activities connected with Scout house – Youth hostel
Our office and your accomodation is situated in the premises of the Scout House hostel, so many activities are taking place right there. Scout house is visited by many tourists every year from different parts of the world and it also provides facilities for local community activities. A large part of the activities include things like small works in the house and the garden, preparing things for social events, cutting wood for the winter ect.

# 3: Scout campsite:
In the summer, we are running scout camp in the mountains about 10 kilometers from Banska Štiavnica. The main role of volunteers is to prepare whole area before the campers arrival. The main works on the scoutcamp start from april to june before the campers come. It include mainly manual work such as cutting grass, building of tents and wooden constructions ect.

# 4: Personal project and other, non-permanent activities:
During the project you will have the chance to develope your specific skills and to make your own personal project. After first months of your stay, we can discuss and make plan for it. It is up on your intiative and skills what it could be.
In the past, our volunteers were responsible for example for making photo database of specific architectural sings in the town, photographing of cultural events, making promo materials for the calvary, translation of textes or mapping of local toristic trails.
The volunteers can also help to provide program for the winter games for local families and children organised in the town every year.
