Resumo: In 1997 two members of Maarja School found an abandoned farm, a perfect place for Maarja School Summer camp. Two parents bought the farm, with is today known as MAARJA VILLAGE.
In South Estonia, surrounded by forest and river Maarja Village is located, an unique combination of free spirit, entrepreneurship, hospitality and active participation.
Maarja Village is situated in Põlvamaa County 12 km from the nearest town Põlva, 50 km from student town Tartu.
In Maarja Village there are 6 houses providing a living and working place for 38 people with intellectual disability. The inhabitants have working possibilities in different workshops such as for example handicraft, woodwork or pottery. There are a vocational training group in gardening (for 24 people) and rehabilitation services (for about 60 persons) for intellectually disabled people
Maarja Village employs 56 workers with full and part time jobs.
Since 2004 we have welcomed 40 volunteers from 15 different countries for long-term voluntary service in Maarja Village as house assistants.
Maarja Village can be considered a competence center for people with intellectual disability, and our goal is to live a life as independent as possible, to decide for ourselves about important questions of our lives. To make this really happen, we need support.
