Resumo: Through this project, cultural diversity has a chance to get into the lives of hundreds of
Romanian children, with playful activities and creative methods, brought by the EVS
volunteers from “Aici-Acolo 2011-2012”, inspired by the childhood folklore from their
own culture.
Children with different social backgrounds or from various geographical areas in Romania,
as European citizens of tomorrow, will have the chance of an early knowledge of the cultural
diversity. This will lead to a realistic understanding of the intercultural universe around them, accepting cultural differences between people and integrating them into their universe of
knowledge without stereotypes, becoming like this more tolerant, less tempted by
xenophobia.
EVS Youth volunteers from all European countries are invited, through the activities that
will take place, to scan their own culture and then to present it in an easy way to the children, making it more attractive and more understandable for the target group. This process brings
by itself a powerful and essential form of non-formal learning, because scanning is based on
the identities of the volunteers, and it’s made in a way they don’t usually have the occasion to do.
Perfil: Working in this project does not require professional abilities in any of its activities. The volunteers’ participation is expected to take the abilities they have in this domain to the next level as it will be proved in your Youth pass. http://actorromania.wordpress.com/
Tarefas: The project has 2 main activities: in different kindergartens and schools, social centers in Bucharest and rural areas, presenting your culture to the children trough artistic activities and games and in three hospitals for children where A.C.T.O.R. performs clinic animation programs. Other activities: A.C.T.O.R.’s annual events - campaigns, sessions to promote volunteering, the national origami contest. Working in kindergartens and schools: the volunteer will be in these institutions the ambassador of his culture. That’s why we would like to have volunteers from different countries in this project, so that the children will experience the diversity of cultures. The volunteers have to find creative ways of working with children so that they will learn by discovering while interacting with the world around him in a non-formal and motivating way. Each volunteer will make a plan (helped by Romanian professional teachers) with educative games, stories, and songs from his country, divided in 3 or 6 meetings. Example of subjects: observing the sounds of the volunteers language, observing colors and shapes, observing the national rhythms and dances of the culture, testing the national tastes and smells, playing games from around the country of the volunteer, observing certain traditional events in the volunteer’s country and creating a mini event like the original. The volunteers will have 1 meeting per week with each kindergarten/ school, so they will go to around 5 different kindergartens or schools/ per week, deploying all kinds of artistic activities-painting, dancing, theatre or educative games. Choosing the activities depends on the volunteer’s way of expressing himself and interacting with the kids the best. The children are divided in age groups and the method may depend on that. These activities have to follow the values of the kindergartens and to and to open the children’s mind to the cultural diversity around them. Through attractive, playful and interactive ways, the children should discover and understand themselves and the world around them better. Also, having as teachers and friends interesting personalities from Europe will improve their communication skills and their trust in them. Working in hospitals: the clinic animation takes place in 3 different hospitals: 3days/week & 3h/day with children with burns, orthopedic, lungs problems or cancer.
