Resumo: The project will be held in the Salesian Youth Centre Celje located in a condense block of flats settlement Hudinja on the suburbs of the city where families face numerous social and economical problems.
Many people living here face serious social, economical and family issues.
Perfil: Our future volunteer should be someone who sincerely wants to volunteer. It should not be someone who wants to run away from his problems and thoughts which he wants to resolve in another country.
That is why it is recommended that they are prepared to learn and grow, acquire new skills , be different, i.e. tolerant to other people and willing to learn other people's and nation's traditions. That is very important to us.
If more volunteers are available, we will only be able to choose two. In the selection a three-member commission will participate: the leader of the youth centre, the president of the Salesian Youth Centre and the representative of young people from our centre. The priority will be given to the candidate who will present (in writing) maximum openness and willingness to live and work in the Salesian Youth Centre.
We particularly wish to cooperate with Salesian network organizations from all over Europe and also with catholic organizations which work with young people. Our future volunteers can also be students or unemployed young people. Speaking English or Italian or at least any of the languages of the ex-Yugoslavia is necessary. They need to be open to new experiences, possess their own-initiative and sense of responsibility.
Tarefas: REGULAR ACTIVITIES: working with animators and volunteers, girls and men discussion groups, learning various musical instruments, music band, vocal group, children choir, sports (football, basketball, volleyball and hockey), club programme, personal monitoring, monthly lectures etc.
PERIODIC ACTIVITIES: open days, lectures, oratorio, holiday programme, billboards, sports tournament, volunteer festival, courses, New Year's Eve celebration, St Nicholas celebration, international cooperation, LAS Celje (local action group for prevention of addiction) …
Volunteers will work in the Salesian Youth Centre. There are various activities they could take part in (or supervise them).
" Free time activities: four days a week there is Club in SMC, i.e. time for young people to socialize with their peers and spend free time together. At the same time all sorts of games can be played, such as: board games, billiards, table tennis, table hockey etc. Volunteers will be able to get involved, maybe lead an activity or something similar. At the same time this would be a great opportunity to learn the language in an informal way (otherwise it is also advised for the volunteers to attend a Slovene language course at the Public Institution for Education and Training in Celje).
" Sports activities (football, volleyball, basketball): Slovenian SMC centres are also associated with each other through sports. There have been all sorts of sports leagues. Young people do not train sports for various reasons so here they get to play a sport in a more relaxed way. Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in organizing such sports events or they could get involved in the team, coach or support the team.
? Work with volunteers and animators: young people are involved in various programmes to help the younger. At the same time they need help themselves. They need to be taught, encouraged and shown how to work with groups. A volunteer can become part of the 'domestic' volunteers and animators group and may as well assist in the management of the group.
? Music: young people like to learn different instruments. We constantly look for outside co-workers or offer music lessons ourselves. Those who already know something teach others with less knowledge. Some time ago a band was founded in the centre. Again, the role of volunteers would be to assume the role of a teacher in case they play any musical instruments, otherwise they might learn an instrument.
" Dance: a dance group is organized where children and young people learn dances they are interested in. Again, there is place for volunteers to contribute.
" Creative workshops: young people are very creative and have the desire to manufacture, to create. Therefore there are numerous workshops organized in the centre all year long. A volunteer may be included in the same way as mentioned earlier.
" Holiday programmes: two major programmes for children are organized through winter and summer holidays. Volunteers could be included in the animators team organize and conduct a programme for children.
" Individual projects: (billboards, tournaments, festival of volunteering, courses ...) There are various programmes available all year long. A volunteer may be included as mentioned above.
Condições: Food
It is possible to eat at the centre, i.e. volunteers may want to cook by themselves (kitchen is available but it is more or less intended for breakfast and dinners preparation).
One may choose among the many self-service restaurants in the near shopping centres (5 minutes on foot away from the centre).
There are many restaurants, pizza places, kebab places, McDonald's restaurants in the city centre ...
Laundry
It is taken care of in the centre. Laundry is done once a week, ironing can be arranged.
Accommodation
Volunteers stay in a students home inside the centre, on the second floor (there is no elevator). There are double and triple rooms with internet and other necessities. Showers and toilets are joint.
