Resumo: The host organization is a well-known Latvian environmental organization based in Latvia. Its mission is to create a social movement that not only supports environment-friendly ideas, but also puts them into practice.

We work to inform and educate people about environmental issues, to involve them and to encourage them to change their everyday habits to live a more sustainable lifestyle. Our main activities include social campaigns (“Latvia – the greenest country in the world”), non-formal education for children, youth and adults, entertaining/educational events and activities (workshops, excursions, presentations, games, discussions). The topics we are currently working on include climate change, sustainable food consumption, food waste, waste recycling, green guidelines for offices and events, and our personal carbon footprint.

The organization was established in 2007. At the moment, we are six people working in the office (plus 2 EVS volunteers), and we have a board of three people. We have a trusted network of about 70 local volunteers and hundreds of followers and supporters. We collaborate closely with (inter)national NGOs, local municipalities and (green) companies in Latvia. The organization has a good presence in traditional media (magazines, news portals, radio, TV), and is active on Facebook (in English), Twitter (in Latvian), and the local social network Draugiem.lv.

• ready to spend a year (from Febuary 2017) in Latvia;
• 18-30 years old;
• able to work as part of a team;
• passionate about the environment;
• ready to organize creative events and social/PR campaigns;

Tarefas: POSSIBLE TASKS OF THE VOLUNTEER:
(These are just examples of possible activities for EVS volunteers. Your project will be designed and made according your personal skills, interests and learning objectives.)
• EVENTS & WORKSHOPS. Organize workshops (together with our local volunteers) on our Green Floor or during third-party events (for example: creative upcycling workshops, educational games, movie nights, excursions in the city or into nature, give presentations on environmental topics, etc.). Develop new ideas for our portfolio of possible workshops.
• PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES. Support the organization ongoing projects and campaigns. You will be given a role in our activities depending on your skills, interests and experience.
• INFORMATIONAL CAMPAIGNS. Educate and inform people about environmental issues.
• WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA. Maintain the organization: website (in English and/or Russian). Write a blog. Post updates on social network (Twitter, Facebook, newsletter).
• OFFICE WORK. Responding to e-mails, copying/scanning, updating databases, preparing documents, participating in planning meetings, support Latvian EVS volunteers going abroad, coordinate international Youth Exchanges, managing the library.
• PHOTO & VIDEO. Document our events/activities and make promotional material.
• GRAPHIC DESIGN. Create materials (posters, flyers, stickers) to promote sustainable living.
• REPAIR CAFE. Organize Repair Café few times a year together with a local cultural center. Repair Café is about introducing people to repairing things on their own and integrating recycling and upcycling in everyday life.
• ECO GARDENING. the organization: has a small garden in the middle of the city since the spring of 2016. The task of the volunteer would be taking care of the garden and developing it (for e.g. landscaping, vegetable beds, eco-building or own ideas), organizing events and workshops there. If you have green fingers and are not afraid to get your hands dirty, then this is the place for you.
