Resumo: organization is a non-profit organisation focused on media and participation. . Our StoryLab division is focused on experiment in new media output and the production of media content on demand for other non-profits. A young media maker starts out as a volunteer and works his or her way up to a fully payed freelancer. We specifically work on portfolio building, and freelance skills and attitudes towards a paying costumer. Our second division, StampMedia, is the first and only youth press agency in Belgium. The goal is to get the point of view of young people published in the mainstream media. In order to achieve this, we help young people (age 16-25) with their media production skills while maintaining both a high production standard and a strong ethic code. The majority of the produced articles gets accepted by the mainstream press, both online and in the print versions. The project has proven its value in the Flemish media, time and again.
Perfil: Age:17-30
Tarefas: Depending on the level of media skill, the personal interests of the volunteer and/or the need of the organisation, the volunteer works towards media output for StoryLab and/or StampMedia. Experienced media makers get their own long term project, in which they are coached on a day-to-day basis. Volunteers with less experience get training in the media field that they want to explore and work on short term projects.
Besides the personal projects the EVS volunteer also supports other staff members and young media makers (on workshops, small projects,…).
Depending on the volunteers main focus, the activities either are very specifically catered towards the project the volunteer works on, or tend to get standardized. Standard activities are as follows:
The volunteer works together with one of our coaches on coverage of an activity. Depending on the amount of experience the volunteer works either towards a finished montage, or towards a smaller “in between” goal.
The volunteer helps the staff members/coaches with the preparation for their workshops and projects. They get partial assignments on which they get coaching until they are able to meet the required quality levels on their own.
The volunteer joins our weekly team meetings and gets to attend the editorial meetings of the youngsters. Of course there is lots of free coffee and an inhouse lunch break where we all eat together.
Horário: 38 hours / week (flexible)
A normal workweek is from Tuesday till Friday (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) and on Saturday afternoon (13 p.m. – 17 p.m.), with off course the necessary flexibility involved in youth work.
We give all EVS volunteers 2 days off every month, and make sure they have at least one full weekend every month. Our office is closed for two weeks in August or July, depending on the scheduled activities.
