Resumo: The non-profit association is the legal body responsible this institution, which remains the only one of its kind in the world after 28 years. Since 1985, it has thrived on the dedicated work of predominantly volunteer workers coming from diverse areas of study. The association is committed to the research, collection and exhibition of the history of gay/lesbian culture in particular.
The association houses exhibition spaces, an archive and a library and positions itself at both German and international levels as a unique institution which possesses an extensive collection on the topic of homosexuality and where specific expertise and documents are concentrated. In both its exhibition and collection practices, as well as through its program of events, the museum aims to present queer models of life in all their diversity, thus counteracting ostracism and stigmatization.
Accompanying events round out the exhibition program. These delve deeper into the exhibition topics and instigate discussion. Events include readings, book presentations, discussions and film/video screenings.

This organisation has additional mentoring or other support suitable for young people with social obstacles, educational difficulties, cultural differences or similar.
