Resumo: The Masorti association and the Masorti kindergartens are located in Berlin, which is the capital of Germany as well as an independent federal state. Berlin is in the eastern part of Germany and with 3.4 million inhabitants it is Germany's biggest city. The infrastructure in Berlin is well-organised - there are several universities with students from all over the world, there are many different ways to spend your free time (theatre, opera, cinema, museum). The population of Berlin is varied - Berlin is a multicultural city. 21 years after reunification, the city has changed due to the many different construction projects that have been going on. This makes Berlin a very interesting, lively and varied place to be - Berlin is never boring. The social environment of our work is very interesting too, since the German Jewish communities have been benefiting for several years from the immigration from countries of the FSU. This makes our work challenging but also presents many opportunities.

Perfil: "We would like to ask the volunteer to explain in writing his/her motivation and interest in voluntary service. He/she hast to be at least 18 years old at the start of the project.
For the selection procedure, Masorti works in close cooperation with its partner organisations in Europe. In an intensive talk on telephone or personally, the volunteer chooses together with Masorti and his partners a specific field of activity for his/her voluntary service.
Masorti and its partners will try to establish whether the volunteer has empathy, sensibility, stability and interest in the work with Masorti.
For the work in the Masorti kindergartens we would like him/her to enjoy the work with children. Empathy, the ability to work under pressure, patience and flexibility are advantageous. He/she should possess a strong sense of responsibility for the work with children.
Generally, we would like him/her to be interested in Judaism and its tradition. We are also in favour of the volunteer learning German during his/her stay and thereby fostering his/her intergration.

Tarefas: "There are several possible areas where the volunteer could work, depending on his/her abilities and skills.

The first possibility is the work in our two Masorti kindergartens. The goal is that the volunteer supports the team of the Masorti kindergarten through his/her interest in the work with children and his/her languages abilities. The volunteer works independently under the professional supervision of the team and the director. If the volunteer is interested, he/she also has the opportunity to work on projects with individual children or small groups of children or to realise his/her own ideas and projects in addition to the regular work of the kindergarten.
Even though the independence of the volunteer is very important to us and should be supported, there will also be enough time to reflect on what he/she has learned and experienced. His/her knowledge and language abilities will improve through the work with children and vice versa. For the children, the volunteer is an authentic person as well as a language model and therefore helps to develop their intercultural and language competence. In our small team, he/she always has the possibility to communicate and consult with the team. His/her areas of activity as well as the schedule will be arranged together with the volunteer based on his/her needs and wishes. His/her experiences and opinions about the kindergarten and the development of the children will be taken into consideration.
The volunteer learns a lot about the world of the children and the interaction with them. He/she recognises progress in their learning and development and can build on this with specific objectives. At the same time he/she gets an insight in the general work of a Kindergarten.

Working in the Masorti association is a second possibility for the volunteer. According to his/her wishes, interests, abilities and skills possible areas of work could consist of the conceptual work on projects and publications as well as support of our work on a European level or the assistance with our weekend seminars. Thanks to his/her native language, there are many possible fields of work for the volunteer. The volunteer will assist the small team of Masorti e.V. in an active way and will work independently on his/her own projects under professional supervision. If interested, the volunteer would also have the possibility to assist with some activities in cooperation with the Oranienburger Strasse Synagogue, such as preparing the kiddushim, assisting with seminars, etc. This would give him/her a deeper insight in the life of the Berlin Jewish community.

The volunteer will have the possibility to learn new things and put them into practice, and to get to know project work at the same time. The kindergartens and the association are open and curious towards his/her ideas and suggestions and are interested in putting those into practice.
