Resumo: The host organization is a non-profit organization active since 1984 in the city. Its main goal during these years has been the improvement of the quality of life of people with intellectual disability and their families. This support is undertaken through direct work with the beneficiaries, who participate in several activities offered in the two centers that the organization currently manages: the day care center and the leisure center.

Through activities and courses, the people with intellectual disability develop new abilities ensuring an independent and happy life, fostering at the same time the development of their social skills and combating social exclusion. The organization hosts different aged people with different degrees of disability, coming from different socio-economic background and different ethnic groups, considering the important presence of minorities. The staff of is composed by young high-qualified professionals and it takes profit of the participation of local volunteers.

The families of people with intellectual disability find a big support in the organization, witnessing the implementation of the person’s quality of life. The organization involves the families in various activities, organizes periodically seminars about intellectual disability and publishes information targeted to the families.

The organization has experience hosting EVS volunteers, believing that it will be an enriching experience for the people with intellectual disability, who will learn with somebody from a very different background. It is also a positive experience for the center workers, the families and the community in general. The organization is open to all the volunteer’s suggestions and initiatives, and it will take in account his/her experience and ideas to develop new projects.

Perfil: The volunteers will be motivated to develop one personal project during the stay, which will be related to the people with disabilities, but in accordance to their own ideas, creativity and initiative. For that project the volunteers will receive the support and resources they need.
Age: 17-30

Tarefas: The main goal of the project is to raise the awareness about intellectual disabilities among youth, trough media and promotional activities.
The volunteers will work in a center (Day Care and Resource Center) for young people with intellectual disabilities. They will contribute with non-professional assisting tasks to the running of the center, participating in the implementation of the activities explained below.
The project involves five volunteers from program countries, which service duration is 12 months. Three volunteers will be engaged in the Resource centre in activities like magazine and promotional activities, fundraising and project design, families support, youth activities and training and research activities. Two volunteers will be engaged in the Day Care centre where they will plan, implement and assist the daily activities and workshops, focused in reading and writing, crafts, cooking, sports, and outdoor activities. The first month will be a learning period to become familiar with the running of the association and all the services, and they will be always supported by the mentor and the center’s staff. Once settled and accustomed to how the center functions, the volunteers will be able to plan and implement the activities in the respected service/centre.

They will also participate in special events organized for the youngsters, such as the Christmas Festival or excursions to discover Macedonia, where all the volunteer’s suggestions and initiatives will be welcomed.

Horário: The volunteers will work from Monday to Friday 7 hours a day. They will live in a flat and will receive Macedonian lessons two times a week throughout their stay.
