Resumo: "Geographical, social, and economical environment.
The town of Trento is geographically located in the north-eastern part of Italy; capital city of the Autonomous Province, it has approximately 110.000 inhabitants. The town lies in a wide glacial valley (called Adige valley), and it is surrounded by mountains, which are an essential element in order to understand local lifestyle and culture. The border with Austria is only 115 km away, something which determined the peculiarity of the history of the region, where different minorities live in the same territory; as a matter of fact, it was only after World War I that the region became part of Italy (Treaty of Saint-Germain; September 10th, 1919). Until the economic boom of the 50s-60s, the region was characterized for being very poor, so that plenty of its inhabitants had to emigrate; today the opposite is true, with a growing number of immigrants coming to the city, which make up for approximately 7 % of the population. Trento is one of the richest area of the country, and it is considered to be well-administered, enjoying the benefits of special autonomy from the central Italian government because of its peculiarity. As to its economy, Trento lives mainly on commerce, services, tourism, high-quality agriculture and food industry (including wine and fruit), and as a research and conference centre thanks to a small but renowned university and research organizations such as Bruno Kessler Foundation and the European Centre for Theoretical Studies in Nuclear Physics and Related Areas (FBK and ECT*). Especially as to University, it needs to be pointed out that during the last years the city has been growing a lot in this sense, reaching a students' population of over 15.000 students. Despite this, even though a number of cultural activities take place regularly throughout the year (Filmfestival internazionale della montagna, Festival dell'Economia, etc.) Trento does not offer much in terms of night-life. Yet various sport activities can be practised, like skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, trekking, cycling and mountain biking, climbing, windsurfing, canoeing, sailing, swimming. Volunteers will be living and working in Trento and its immediate surrounding.
General context of the hosting organization.
Volunteers will support the staff' activities in the home for elderlies as to free time and entertainment; therefore their scope of activities will take place in this framework. Volunteers will always be in contact with the staff from Civica, elderlies and their families: especially in a relationship with an old people, it is essential to be patient during the activities. Volunteers, in the home for elderlies, will always be supported by their tutor and their work supervision, and also from the person responsible for the project. Moreover volunteers can also count on INCO organization's support (INCO is the coordinating organization for Civica as to bureaucratic and administrative procedures for EVS, and it supports Civica also as to volunteers)."

Perfil: "The recruitment process is done together with the Association INCO. INCO has an open application procedure, being the project open to any young person who wishes to work alongside elderly people. INCO publicizes the vacancies in its website, besides announcing it to several other organizations in and outside Europe. INCO made the pre-selection process taking into account all young people who contacted them directly by e-mail or through a Sending Organization, considering their motivation and commitment with the project and voluntary work (expressed in their motivation letter and e-mails). INCO always tries to keep a gender and geographic balance between the whole volunteers' group present in the Civica, considering not only the applicants, but also the already existing and working group. The final decision is taken by Ms. Divan in accordance with the administrative staff of the organization.
The project is open to everybody who has a special interest and sensibility to elderly people and could bring new energy and enthusiasm in order to improve the conditions of the guests in the nursing homes, contributing to maintain active their physical, mental, affective and attitudinal capacities. Once that the volunteers will be permanently in contact with the elders, they should be open-minded, available to listen to them, patient and they should have certain interest in interpersonal communication.
Civica and INCO are open to work with any Sending Organization from any country. The most important thing for us is that the SE prepares and supports the volunteers as it's predicted by the Youth in Action Programme, respecting the deadlines and agreements set, and being collaborative in case of an emergency or crises.

Civica di Trento APSP is able to host a maximum of 4 volunteers at the same time.
"

Tarefas: "Volunteers will participate in the activities of the house of elderlies being in close contact with old people who will so be able to enjoy the presence and the help of the youngsters who will, as well, learn how to have a relationship with old people in need, growing both in terms of personal and professional life, thanks to a growing number of gradual responsibilities.
Volunteers will organize and carry out projects regarding activities with old people; such projects can include, for example, a day to explain their culture of origin, bearing in mind an intercultural communication approach. Once volunteers are more integrated in the house of elderlies environment (even though always assisted by the staff of Civica), they will be able to carry out such activities in an autonomous way. They will learn how to trust and use their capacities and knowledge. Moreover the possibility of being abroad, away from their family and friends and needing to use a different language to communicate, facing a different reality, is a possibility to think about oneself, opening to a new reality and to grow as individuals.
Meetings will be organized together with the other volunteers of Civica, and this will be a good opportunity to exchange ideas and thoughts together, growing as a group; these meetings are a possibility to exchange opinions and it is a useful place to speak openly about problems or doubts. Moreover. INCO Coordinator for the EVS program will organize regular meetings to monitor on how the project is going.
"" what will be the role of EVS volunteers in the Host Organisation,
The main role of the volunteers will be collaborating with the staff of Civica in developing activities which will include them in entertainment tasks and support to the individual. Volunteers will always work in close contact with the staff, yet they will be considered volunteers, and will not carry out tasks they do not wish to, nor they will be a replacement for paid staff. During the project volunteers will develop, each time in a more autonomous way, activities proposed to them and, later on, by them according to their skills and capabilities. Volunteers will work in synergy and supporting a multi professional team, especially the one of social service. During their work volunteers will always be followed so to learn not only how to carry out the activities, but also how to organize them from A to Z in the different structures.
Volunteers will also support paid staff in assisting guests (for example also helping old people with difficulties in walking), and they will also assist in carrying out complementary actions such as administrative tasks (i.e. small commettees for the guests). As to entertainment activities, these will include organizing parties, reading together the newspaper, listening to music, going for a walk or to the market.
In any case volunteers will never have direct responsibilities in managing too stressful or hard situations.

Horário: "Volunteers will develop their activities for 30 hours per week distributed in 5 days, with 2 consecutive days off from work (normally on Saturdays and Sundays; if the volunteers will take part in the activities carried out in the week end they will take other days off during the week). Volunteers need to be flexible, also in terms of going out from the house of elderlies for the development of the activities (i.e. meeting other organization, taking out guests, etc.). In special occasions to be agreed with the staff and for a maximum of 5 bank holidays during the whole experience activities can also be carried out if so wished. A possible weekly timetable could be from 9-12 and from 14:30-17:30. The project will take place in the four structures: San Bartolomeo; ""Angeli Custodi"" in via della Collina; Stella del Mattino"" in Gardolo; and the structure in Gabbiolo.
During the first months volunteers will have the opportunity to get used to the routine of the structures, the activities to be developed, the language and the collaborators for Civica. After gaining more confidence with the daily routine and with the guests, volunteers will be able to work in a more autonomous way, improving their language skills and proposing new activities according to their interests and competences.

To be more practical, a typical day of a volunteer in Civica could be:
Mondays to Fridays
9.00 - organization of the daily activities
9.30 - development of the programmed activities
12.00 - 14.30 - lunch break
14.30 - activities with guests
Details about the activities could change a lot and depend from different factors such as weather, season, health condition of the guests, special need, etc. Activities will always be discussed together with the staff of the houses of elderlies. Besides assisting the elderlies, activities could involve:
"" table game (bingo, chess, cards, etc.)
"" manual activities (painting, gardening, etc.)
"" cultural activities (cinema, art exhibitions, going to the museum, discussions about different topics, etc.)
"" learning activities: word games

Volunteers will be able to propose and implement every activities which will be deemed suitable to the project. Their proposals will always be taken into considerations and discuss so to meet the objectives and reaching the results. This will help volunteers in developing their creativity and management skills.

Condições: "During their experience as EVS volunteers they will need to pay attention to some general rules regarding the development of their work and the good maintainability of their apartment. These rules are:
"" respecting the timetable agreed together and if sick, communicating it to the responsible person;
"" keep down the volume of music/TV in the apartment;
"" smoking (in the house for elderlies and in the apartment) is forbidden; outside the buildings there are special areas for smokers;
"" feedbacks and critics should be carried out directly to the responsible person;
"" if hosting friends in the structures and the apartment, agreements need to be taken with the responsible person;
"" there is a silent time of the day which needs to be respected: from 12.00 to 14.00 and from 22.00 to 07.00; it is forbidden to make noises in the common areas of the buildings (i.e. stairs);
"" the apartment needs to be left in the way it was found for future volunteers (i.e.: cleaning, throwing away the trash, no animals);
"" in case of damages contact immediately the responsible person; if the damage was caused by misuse, then a compensation can be asked;
"" allowing the responsible person to enter the apartment for routine cleaning and maintainability of the accommodation;
"" in case of danger (i.e. fire) inside the apartment contact immediately the responsible person and follow the rules normally envisaged in this case.
EVS volunteers in Civica will foster intercultural exchange and solidarity between youngsters and elderlies. They will contribute in the struggle against social discrimination enriching old people's life by carrying out a variety of activities. Such activities will help the volunteers in learning by doing, thus acquiring new skills in organizing activities together with the staff. Volunteers will be able to organize entertainment activities for the elderlies according to their skills, competences, and inclinations.
They will always be supported by the staff members of Civica. Tutors will explain and discuss to the volunteers aims and objectives of each action, how to carry it out, and the expected results, teaching them what is necessary to work successfully in this environment.
Volunteers will develop the following skills and competences:

"" more sensitivity as to intercultural topics as well as intercultural communication;

"" getting to know different socio-cultural realities from the ones they are used to;
