Resumo: The host organization is located in a city with 10000 inhabitants. There is a train station with a TGV stop, which permits to be in Paris in three hours. The city is also the meeting point of three rivers.
The area around the town, has a strong cultural dynamism, specially around breton culture. There are a lot of associations (like an associative cinema with 5 screens), which makes this small city a nice and active place to live in.
There is a harbour, which was very powerfull in the Middle Ages, and contributed in these old times to the developpment of the town and of the abbey whose premises now house the school.
Perfil: The candidate should be motivated to take part in team work with a public of teenagers. The ideal candidate will be dynamic and autonomous, and willing to learn leading groups of teenagers. Some basic skills in French would be appreciated. Speaking one of the other languages taught in the school : (English, German, Spanish or Italian) would be an advantage to communicate with the students.
Age: 17-30
Tarefas: During his service, the volunteer will discover the French school system, developp their cultural opening and their knowledge of Europe, learn to be a group leader, and especially a group of teenagers, to work as one of a team. Depending on their tastes and expectations, the volunteer will have the possibility to attend various classes, either to strengthen their knowledge of the subjects or discover the teaching profession.
The volunteer will have numerous opportunities to developp professional skills such as project management, communication in different languages, use of new technologies, …
The volunteer, in close contact with the whole educative community of the school (teachers and animators), will be a first hand testimony of his/her own culture, will offer to teach the basics of his mother tongue (or of some other tongue he would be fluent in) and will participate in many activities and projects. These activities will be in relation with the European opening of the school (one of our educative project priorities), either on the socio-cultural sector of the establishment, under the responsibility of the assistant director and the Education Prime Counsellor. The volunteer will also be able to develop his own personal project threw extra-curricular activities, according to his personal tastes and skills.
In his daily tasks, the volunteer’ status (rules, rights and position towards the pupils) will be the same as the school staff, but the volunteer will never be alone to bear responsibility for an action
The volunteer will organize his missions from Monday to Friday. He will get the school holidays off, like all teachers (end of October, Christmas, February, April).
His/her missions will be :
• Activities connected with the international opening of the school:
- he/she will propose some animations connected with Europe during the pupils’ free-time (lunch time, wednesday afternoon, evenings at the boarding-school)
- he/she will take part in the preparation of special events like the “European week” with the volunteers hosted in other organisations
- he/she will help the teachers to prepare the exchanges with foreign countries, and the host programmes of the foreign pupils’ groups coming to the school
• Socio-cultural animation in the school and the boarding-school :
- the volunteer will help to organize exhibitions or special events like « the students forum »,« school open day »
- he/she will support the communication of the school (pictures of the main events, realisation of information boards for the pupils, reports, ..)
- he/she will accompany cultural or sports projects, and the activities outside the school
- he/she will help the pupils for their homework (specially on the boarding school)
- he will accompany sporting and cultural activities at the boarding school (going to the cinema, to the theatre, ..)
• Different activities in relation with the tastes and the skills of the volunteer :
- The volunteer will be free to suggest or participate in other extra-curricular activities like photo club, theatre club, …
The typical timetable of the volunteer will vary from one week to the other, but will always be in relation with the pupils’ or boarding school’s timetable. During his/her time at the school, the activities of the volunteer will be the ones detailed above.
