Resumo: The host organization headquarters is located in the center village, a five-room house built in 1809, restored and modernized by a family. Headquarters will work as gathering point, club and personal hygiene space for all volunteers working with the organization. To be noted that the VWA headquar-ters is fully equipped with office equipment (PC, printer, telephone, Internet), an LCD TV, musical instruments (piano, guitar, drums), a beautiful piece of land spread over 10.000 square meters, cheap access to construction materials, lodging opportunities. To conduct its first project under consideration, the experimental archeology camp, the association does not have significant other own resources, and intends to attract EU funds via „Young in Action” Program
Our association intends to establish a permanent camp on a plot of 10.000 sqm located on a hill guarding the village, near the edge of a forest. The camp will operate as an experimental archaeo-logical site, having as aim of building an architectural complex which would imagine the XII-th century fortified manor belonging to the hypotetical founder. On this building site organized as a medieval settlement, the volunteer will be able to blend construction labour with learning ways of medieval stone and woodworking, returning 800 years in time and recreating-while-experiencing the life of a Saxon settler. He will also interact in various instances with the local community, taking note of a self-sufficient Transylvanian rural community life-style, its cultural habits, old traditions and attempted insertion into modernity.
Perfil: Age: 17-30
Tarefas: The role of volunteer will be that of workforce for the project in question, but also of emblematic factor of visibility for the camp site, creating and feeding the interest of inhabitants in the history of their village. Volunteers will be informed in detail and will be able to tell further about the historical context of the construction, about the double capacity of the Saxons as settlers and defenders of European civilization, about the concept of the "Casa" as focal point of medieval re-enactment activities and revitalization of ancestral crafts.
A typical workday will consists in: morning briefing with tasks of the day, dividing the working groups (stonecutters, carpenters, masons, householders) under master supervision, carrying planned actions and individual tasks outlined and illustrated by master, then, when the work program ends, informal meetings with young villagers, club and personal hygiene activities at the VWA headquarters or rest within the camp.
and girls for camp management, with a ratio of 3:1. A voluntary should have the enthusiasm to accept the challenge of working and living in open space, in conditions of limited comfort, for stages between 2 weeks and 2 months. For this reason, we prefer to work with young people and organizations that have some experience in such placements, either archaeological or in exploration and adventure-type expeditions, undertaken in minimalist conditions (tent, bag and mattress). Also, we seek partner organizations with an interest shown in the European history and multiculturalism. During the recruitment process, volunteers will be transparently informed upon the future activity framework and horizons of expectation they may have, in order to eliminate further misunderstandings. On equal terms of age, sex, race, health and experience, will be preferred those with prior theoretical and practical knowledge on building, those interested in outdoor camping activities, experimental archaeology and medieval re-enactment.
We intend to tailor the work camp so we can ensure for all volunteers optimal conditions of satisfaction in the personal welfare, quality of learning and emotional insertion in the associative actions. At the end of the action, the young people involved will be proud to have participated in such a project, the experience gained will strengthen them physically and mentally, giving them expertise and practical skills they will use later on, complementing their personality: principles of camp organization, dwelling arrangement, individual and group management, identification and use of various work tools and equipments, principles of labor efficiency, elements of history, architecture and constructive aesthetic.
