Resumo: We are in the suburbs near the river. There are a lot of forests and bike paths, which we use for trips. The Club has a computer room, kitchen (in which we prepare meals for children) and a "working room" where we can make some easy home-made crafts with children. Among other activities we also teach children basic English and how to use a computers there. Sometimes we rent a gym room from school, which is next to our organization. We organise many different activities for children: they learn how to swim, they have gym, fitness, climbing walls, we also lead special exercises for children with slight physical problems. It depends mostly on the possibilities we have with outside an indoor space.
During summer and winter holidays we organize camps and trips. By games and talks we teach children how to live near nature, we prepare meals, we teach them how to take care of nature and respect it. We are leading many local events and occasional events like The Day of the Santa Clause, Children Day, Christmas Eve etc. During those events we engage children as much as possible. Thank to that they feel, that those events are created by them, and that they achieved something on their own.
Our children live in a difficult environment and they are in danger of poverty, unemployment, alcoholism and many other. Those children don't have any places to meet after school, they don't have people who would listen to them and help to solve their problems. We want to show them that life can be very interesting among their friends from the Association. This is a huge challenge for our workers and volunteers, that is why, they must like this kind of job.
We hope that thanks to our work children and youth will know how to act in a proper way in their own life, not make any problems, neither for themselves, nor other people. We would like to give them some cues, that they would use in their further life. They can gain some practical knowledge, how to communicate with their environment or realize their interests.
Teachers and students of Krakow's universities cooperate with our association regularly. We also work with volunteers from Krakow, cause they give us a lot of new, fresh, innovative ideas. They bring new motivation and great atmosphere full of energy.
The work with our youth can be sometimes difficult. As our place is not very big and sometimes there is lot of children we need to be efficient in organising well our working space. What more, the staff needs to be creative to attract children to the activities they are making. It is not obvious that young people will want to follow organised activities, so our goal is to make them willing to engage in a creative way in the common work, games and workshops.
Perfil: We are looking for people who, most of all, like to work with youth and children. We would like them to be very open and innovative - cause this is very important in such organisation as ours. Each passion or hobby is extremely valuable in work with children! It would be good if they would be patient and understanding, as we are also cooperating with people from difficult family/social environments, and sometimes with children with small psychological problems. Generally all hobbies, interests and passions would be useful in this work, cause our activities are very diverse. As explained in the volunteers tasks, all members of the staff need to work in all activities, from workshops, mentoring, cooking to cleaning - so we want to host volunteers that will understand these needs of our organisation. Still, of course the most important part is coping well with children. we will provide our support and share our experiences in his field. We do not have any educational demands, neither we need people with experiencce. Being open minded, creative and liking workig with children is sufficient for us.
Age: 17-30
Tarefas: At the beginning (time when the volunteers won't speak Polish too fluently) we want the volunteers to help our staff, and try to engage children in some sport games, music, theatre e.t.c. Then, when they will feel more comfortable in Polish they will be able to organize more complicated things. They can personally lead some more complicated activities (workshops, any ideas for work with children after consulting with us).
To sum up all possible activities for the volunteers:
1) organizing games ( linguistic, artistic etc.) for children,
2) leading computer activities, with special emphasis on the internet subject (we hope that by using internet children will be able to find some help with their school works and some interesting articles for them, they can also have contact e.x with similar organizations form volunteers hometown). However here it will be important to try to organise the time spent with the computers in a creative way (children tend to over use the computer time for playing games, what is not our goal).
3) food care - helping teachers and children to prepare daily meals
4) organizing sport activities (gym, outdoor, football Ping-Pong, cycling depending on contemporary possibilities)
5) organizing competitions, quizzes
6) organizing trips by bikes, ecological trips, tourist trips e.t.c.
7) leading activities connected with handicraft, hand-made objects and technical useful basics
8)taking care of children while taking part in our activities, also while going out to other cooperating with us organizations
9) we organise food bank - we get food suplies from sponsors and we distribut them to poor families in our district - we would like our volunteers tto be actuve during these activities.
If the volunteers would like, we can make weekly meetings connected with different cultures. On such meetings we would talk about home countries of volunteers, customs, we would play some typical games of the country, maybe gain some knowledge about their casual life, see what are the similarities and cultural differences, learn some basic words. This might be a very good motivation for children to learn something more about this particular region of Europe. We think that this can be a very important contact for the children, cause this might be the only contact they ever had, and ever will have with people from abroad.
Generally we deeply hope that the volunteers will create their own, unrepeatable atmosphere of their staying here, by arranging, creating and positive attitude to work. We are looking forward for any volunteers ideas, that will very helpful for us. We think that international volunteers work as a great idea to widen children's horizons, and to leave a feeling, that they have somebody that have interest in them, and cares about them.
A very important issue for us is the fact that our association is like home - we do not have lot of staff and we all need to cooperate with each other. We do not have external financial support so all daily work like cleaning, cooking and mentoring children are done by same people from the staff crew. Volunteers entering out association are supposed to have 2 main roles in the organisation. First one is to create their own workshops, introduce interculturality and realise above mentioned activities. Second task is the one we all share (staff and children), that is taking care about the basic functioning of the Association. We all clean and cook, like at home, so the volunteers will be asked to join us.
As well, due to not many workers in the organsation we all have rather autonomous positions. It means the volunteers will have more freedom in what they will do, but often they need to be the initiator of the games. As usual with children, they will not sit quietly and wait for us to organize their time. Our task as youth workers is to ocme up with ideas that will be interesting for children and that will be fun for both them an us.
