Resumo: The organization is located in one of the most western municipalities in Norway with approximately 850 inhabitants. Most people live in or around the municipality centre, as well as on the outer islanda. There are about 12-15 smaller communities.
Approximately 350 people live here and the village consists of:
- the municipal administration
- a primary/lower secondary school (6-16 year-olds)
- a kindergarden
- attached to the school there is a sports gymnasium and a swimming pool
- one small shopping centre with grocery store, hardware store, post office, a small police station, and offices for public services. This is also where the second hand shop and café is located.
- two small hotels and a local restaurant/pub (open mainly during sumer)
- a church
- a harbour

Being an island community it is natural that the organization has close ties to the maritime environment, both in traditions and as a foundation for local enterprises and businesses. Fisheries are the major employers, along with fish farming and shipyards. There is also an up-and-coming tourism industry, espeically during the summer months.
There are about 50 organisations town, working with everything from cultural and historical aspects to sports and nature. Sports activities include football, basketball, handball, swimming, badminton, table tennis, etc.

Perfil: The town is a small island municipality approximately two hours away from the nearest city. It is therefore important that the volunteer is adventurous, outgoing, mature, and self assured.
The volunteer should:
- be mature and able to cope in a small society
- possess good communication and social skills
- willing to learn Norwegian
- be able to provide a clean police record (This is a requirement by law in Norway in order to be allowed to work with children.)
- be able to cope with (at times) a rough climate
- preferably enjoy outdoor activities and the other activities offered by the project
- age: 17-30

Tarefas: The project gives volunteers an opportunity to strengthen their personal development and social interaction, and to actively participate in society. The volunteers will learn Norwegian by attending language courses and working in different organisations and settings. This will also provide the volunteers with the opportunity to meet people from diverse cultural and ethnical backgrounds. Furthermore, in their work the volunteers will take part in planning, implementing and decision-making processes.

In order to maximize the volunteers’ opportunities while in the organization, a mentor will be assigned to ensure that the volunteers receive guidance and assistance. The mentor will also assist if the volunteers wish to implement any activities of their own. Previous volunteers have, for example, held guitar courses and arranged basketball practices for the students. The volunteers will thus be able to form some of their daily work assignements based on their own interests and skills.

It is the hope of the organization that the presence of volunteers in will motivate youth from the town to participate in EVS. Having young people from other countries in the organization will also increase knowledge and understanding of other cultures amongst the municipality’s inhabitants.

The role of the volunteers is not to replace the paid work force, but rather to be an extra resource and partner in local development projects. Participating in many different work assignments will provide the volunteers with opportunities to learn a diverse range of skill sets, while at the same time allowing them to share information about their own countries and cultures with the municipality’s inhabitants.

The specific tasks of the volunteers will be decided in collaoration with other organization. As pointed out above, it is possible for the volunteers to implement some of their own activities. However, the general work areas will involve:
- Sale of goods in the second hand shop and café
- Planning and implementing activities in the café (for example language café for immigrants, youth café, etc.)
- Providing assistance at various cultural activities
- Practical work related to preservation of the area’s cultural heritage
- Maintenance of mountain hiking trails
- Providing assistance at diverse sports and outdoor activities (eg. hiking, kayaking, sailing)
- Assisting and leading sports activities in the sports hall and/or swimming pool
- Work in the school cafeteria
- Give practical assistance to the elderly (lawn mowing, snow clearance etc.)
- Assisting other organizations in administrative tasks
