Resumo: "The Occupational Centre Padre Villoslada is located in the premises of the Foundation, in La Zubia, Granada.
La Zubia is a town about 5 kms. from the city of Granada, with a population of around 14,156 inhabitants. It is located between the Meadow of Granada and the Northern hillside of Sierra Nevada. It is a place to do rural and cultural tourism. There are beautiful landscapes to carry out sport activities such as trekking or enjoy the recreational areas between pine-trees. It also offers different interesting historic places.
In our Occupational Centre we attend people with mental disabilities, not only from our homes, but also from Granada and its city belt. The EVS activities would take place in the workshops of the occupational centre, organised according to the support characteristics and needs of the people in them. What once was a small occupational workshop, is now a social complex aiming the social and employment integration of disfavoured collectives, many of them in risk of social exclusion, where a large number of qualified professionals, for the different areas, work. "
Perfil: "VOLUNTEERS: willing to share their free time with people in risk of social exclusion. It is not necessary that the volunteer's organisation works with our same target group, as the idea is to provide individual knowledge and experience and manage an enriching project for the young volunteers. Active participation in similar programmes is an asset.
We are also interested in promoting and enabling the EVS to people with special needs; in our organisation, we count with workers with mental disabities."
Tarefas: "Volunteers will actively participate in the activities carried out in the occupational workshops. Currently, the following workshops are running:
1. Social skill workshop: Volunteers, following the instructions of the entertainer, will support the people with disabilities to develop skills for their social integration: dealing with money, self-care appropriate conducts: use appropriate clothes, be aware of the hygiene, accompaniment to basic shopping, etc.
2. Basic learning workshop: Volunteers will accompany people with mental disabilities in their training about basic matters, following the instructions of the educator: sums, substractions, writing, drawings, extrapolation of geometric forms to paper,...
3. Handicraft workshop: Volunteers will carry out training tasks with people with mental disabilities aiming the development of skills through small handicrafts.
4. Sewing workshop: Volunteers will carry out training tasks with people with mental disabilities aiming the development of skills making sewn material.
5. Day unit: Volunteers will collaborate with the care and attention to people in the day unit, with severe disabilities, under the supervision of the care-takers; their tasks will consist in listening, reading stories and playing with them.
6. Workshop to prepare for society and employment: Volunteers will help with working skills, providing the needed support to manage the employment of people with mental disabilities, accompanying them in the process to learn about success behaviours in the employment world, all of it, within the general established plan.
Although the activities carried out are different, they all have common aims:
a) Manage that students manage as efficiently as possible in their environment.
b) Help them to improve their personal and social relations.
c) Favour the development of psychomotor activities.
