Resumo: KCAT runs a number of programmes and courses from September till June each year, but also has two ongoing projects; the studio and Equinox Theatre Ensamble.
The KCAT Studio ( 5 days) in which artists with special needs are supported in their professional development by professional mentor artists artist. They regularly hold solo and group exhibitions of their work in Ireland and abroad and take on individual and group commissions. A Theatre Ensemble (2 days), that runs along the same principles as the KCAT Studio; where students who have completed the Theatre Performance Course are able to further their professional development. There are part time and full time visual art courses, all for self development, but some also accredited by FETAC.
The host organization is located in a rural town in the heart of the town, facing a car park and and a ruined 15th century Abbey, both beside the King’s River. This area is in the early stages of becoming a Town Square and Park, with the organization being a central cultural resource. It is a small town, but on the bus route between Dublin (Airport & City ) and Cork.
Volunteers would be involved generally from 9-5 on weekdays, with occasional hours outside of these for special events. Suitable accomodation is found for the volunteers at walking distance to the organization, either independent or semi independent (sharing bathroom & kitchen).
The organization is a busy environment, and the volunteer will have an individual mentor that will help them to settle into the local community. Efforts will be made to give the volunteers opportunities to mix with young people.
Perfil: - Generally enthusiastic and motivated to make the placement a success for all involved
-Ideally interested and some experience in art and or theatre (obtained through training, voluntary work or hobby)
-Mature outlook, ideally 20 years or older, to be able to live independent and to deal responsibly and appropiately with the people with special needs.
- Able to take initiative under guidance
- Motivation to specifically work in Art & Study Centre.
Tarefas: Helping the students participating in the course.
For full and part time classroom helpers: the helping can include cutting paper, putting paint on a pallet, technical help with printing and photography, writing in notebook, researching the internet for images, photographing and documenting artwork, cleaning art materials, preparing the End of Year Exhibition, invigilating, etc.
For Theatre Company helper: the volunteer can help with maintaining the theatre space, assisting in a theatre production, writing in notebook, photographing students during class for documentation, researching the internet for images, printing images and video editing, etc.
For the Studio Helper: The work would entail assisting the facilitator and artists in their work. The volunteers help can include cutting paper, putting paint on a pallet, researching the internet for images, moving artwork, invigilation an exhibition in the organization or other venue in the county for a couple of days, photographing and documenting artwork in a computer, cleaning art materials etc.

The volunteers are given the opportunity to develop an artistic/ documentation project with one of the studio artists. If the volunteers has a specific talent or interest, they can suggest other projects that would enhance their skills and meet a need in the organization. Sample: graphic design of new brochure.
