Resumo: The Youth Association ROMANIA - recognizes the need of the local and regional community to have young people coming from other countries, who can contribute to developing the potential of the area from a cultural, social and economical standpoint. For this reason since September 2013 we coordinate EVS projects. Currently 11 EVS volunteers are doing activities with us and we are looking for 12 volunteers from the countries of the European Union
Perfil: The Youth Association is looking for any youth aged 18 to 30 who is serious and motivated to come to a small city and support us in the development of a community with a lot of potential. We do not require volunteers to have any pre-determined skill sets or aptitudes in order to carry out the activity, only an inquisitive demeanor and an openness to learn new things which may be needed for the activity. Also, we do not require participants to have advanced or intermediate English (or other foreign language) speaking skills, we only require them to have a basic skill in English and an openness to learn the local language in order to effectively communicate with the local community. Last but not least, we are looking for energetic, creative open minded and independent youth. If the potential volunteers do not possess these attitudes, they will certainly develop them while working together with us.
Tarefas: The role of the volunteers within our organization is to act as support person and as execution agent to the activities and initiatives that already exist in the community or our NGO. They will have to bring their own motivation and plans in order to fill in the frame of these actions with meaningful, efficient content. The EVS activity of each volunteer is constructed as follows: they will have to allocate 60-70% of their time and activity, to work on this main activity, which they choose in the selection phase. 20-30% of the time, their task will be to do common activities with the other volunteers, activities which are done around the yearly community traditions, events, happenings and holidays of the community. 10% of their time will be spent to create and do visibility materials and promotion activities for the NGO and especially for their own EVS activity. The venues of their activities will be in the small town.
In this context, here are the activities we propose for the 12 volunteers:
1. Recycling and up-cycling education manager – 2 volunteers
town and the region has a lack of options to recycle and act sustainable ecologically so to aid this lack, we continuously have 2 volunteers who do activities on recycling and up-cycling with workshops and other environmental education activities for children, teens and youths. During the activity the volunteers will collaborate with the primary schools, high-schools and the village schools of the region.
2. Support person for the local radio station and online radio - 2 volunteers
There is a local radio station which is understaffed and cannot do field work. To this opportunity we wish to add 2 volunteer who would do radio field work, gathering local news, act as dialogue partners in live emissions and have radio emissions and music shows which introduce and present Europe to the local community. Also, our association has an online radio which focuses on the local community (mainly youth and kids) and on EVS in Romania and Europe. The
volunteers will do podcasts and daily shows in this radio also.
3. Support person for the local TV station and the keresztur.info news portal – 2 volunteers
We have contacts with the local TV station and the news portal in the city, and these have only a few hours of broadcasting, adapting regional or national TV material or showing recordings of local events. To this opportunity we will add 2 volunteers who would do TV field work, gathering local news, presenting portraits of local personalities and doing personal cultural shows etc.
This means that the volunteer will have the necessary tools and materials in order to film digital raw material, to edit and broadcast it.
4. Support person for nurseries, day care centers and kindergartens - 2 volunteers
The local nurseries, day care centers and kindergartens are understaffed and can offer only a minimal range of activities for their children – we intend to have two volunteers who collaborate with these institutions, one in each
institution. The volunteer will be organizing daily workshops for the children to teach foreign languages, boosting creativity, learning about the world, developing dexterity, respecting the environment and doing handicrafts, all
with non-formal teaching methods.
5. Support person for the herbalists of the region - 2 volunteers
The natural hillsides, meadows and forests in the region around the twon have a lot of unique and abundant herbs which are only partially gathered and used.
To this opportunity we wish to have one or two volunteers who would join the few local and regional herbalists, associations and businesses and they will help in gathering drying, treating, packaging and commercializing these herbs. Besides this they would catalogue the working processes needed for different plants and they
would create information tools and do promotional activities.
6. Support person for the Hosting Organization – 1 volunteer
We have a youth group who organize many local sports, cultural and leisure time events. One volunteer will support the activities of this group, both with ideas and direct support. Beside this, the volunteer will also work
directly with the staff and the volunteers of the NGO, in the office, supporting all the activities carried out by us on a local, regional, national and international level.
7. Amateur Astronomy club manager - 1 volunteer
There are a few great uninhabited hillside areas around the city, which have ideal, unused possibilities for astronomy activities and because there was interest for it voiced on high–school level, we started an astronomy club where EVS volunteers do non-formal teaching activities on basic astronomy and sky observation, with night workshops and camps organized for three age categories, children, teens and adults.
Besides all these, in terms of actually doing the activities, during the first month of each volunteers activity, the activities will be more general ones, where the volunteers get used to the community, to the culture, the habits, the logistics and the main activity. Also, in the first months they will also have Hungarian and Romanian language lessons
