Resumo: The host organization is located in the historical centre. The city is one of the biggest cities (400,000 inhabitants approximately, 650.000 including all the metropolitan area). The city has good connections with other cities, but it suffers from geographical isolation and distance from the mainland and main Italian cities.
The area in which organization is located is the old market's quarter, where every morning there is the biggest open market of the town. In the last years this area became the most relevant multi-cultural area of the city since many immigrants live and work there (there are also several shops run by immigrants). Immigrants working and living conditions in this part of the city are critical, because of the low quality of the lodging and the massive phenomena of discrimination in workplace and of illegal business.

Volunteers will have their own room in a shared apartment equipped with all common facilities (kitchen, washing machine, bathroom...). The house is located in the historical centre of the city and its 10 minutes by walk far from the office. Their house mates will be 3 Italian youth workers /students.

The city was one of the main Italian poles - nowadays the city is suffering hardly the economical crisis. The social tissue is characterized by strong disparities due to unemployment and exclusion from the economic development regarding part of the population At the same time there is a big issue related with forms of “new poverty” which affect that part of population who suddenly decrease his own economical situation and specially young people with an average education that have so many difficulties in finding a place in the job market. These difficulties often force these young people to move in other regions of Italy or Europe.

Perfil: We would like to host volunteers who demonstrate Interest for the two main themes of the project:
youth information and immigration and discrimination processes. We’re looking for volunteers who are ready to be challenged from an environment of young activists who strongly believe in the values such anti-racism, inter-cultural dialogue and active participation.
Previous organisational experiences and knowledges in the issues mentioned above will surely help the volunteers in the full integration into the project but are not essential to be selected as a volunteer.

The specific motivation to take part in this project that the volunteers may express is so important as its coherence with personal life experience and future plans.
We would like to cooperate especially with sending organisations which have interest in intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity and immigration fields.
Age: 17-30

Tarefas: Evs volunteers will be fully involved in the daily organisational life by being part of the staff. This means they are going to take part to all planning and evaluation meetings together
with other italian volunteers and staff members and will have the opportunity to work daily in close
contact with other volunteers (mainly Italians). At the same time Evs volunteers are part of a learning
experience in which there will be the possibility to start from their needs and learning objectives. So
they'll have the possibility to have an active role by proposing new activities and initiatives, such i.e. a
personal project created and developed by themselves within the organization main working areas.

give examples of typical activities for the volunteers.
The project include as main activities both information and non formal education activities addressed
to young people between 15 and 30 years old and support and cultural promotion activities
addressed to immigrants and refugees of any age living in the area
Some examples of activities in which the volunteers will be involved :
immigration and cultural diversity sector
- Legal assistance and observation of the phenomena of discrimination - a team of volunteer lawyers
held an helping desk twice a week, offering free legal advice to migrants. This team also does
researches about the migration phenomena and discrimination at local level;
- Inter-cultural theatre workshop: a group of young people from different countries, facilitated by an
theatre trainer, meets once a week for three hours, giving rise to an expressive workshop and a final
performance in the end;
- inter-cultural events - cinema and other cultural activities organized in collaboration with the
immigrants who benefit from the project activities. Many immigrants organize activities: teaching
languages, traditional cooking courses, film or intercultural dinners;
- Italian language courses for immigrants (different levels including preparation courses for italian
knowledge certification;
- Web Radio based on cultural diversity:
Within these activities in immigration and cultural diversity sector it will be asked to international
volunteers to support the staff in the relation with immigrants and refugees to welcome and
guide them in the different services and activities offered, in collecting their data, in spreading
information trough leaflets, website, social networks,etc, in creating, preparing, implementing
intercultural events and new or already existing Radio programme.
media sector / non-formal education activities adressed to young people:
- Information desk about international mobility opportunities for young people,
- European awareness - raising campaigns, training courses, workshops European citizenship in
local schools in cooperation with other associations, etc..
- Trainings and seminars - for youth workers and leaders of organizations - projects across various
programs such as Youth in Action, Gruntdvig, (exchanges, youth initiatives, training activities)
The activity of information will not consist in a simple front-office action, but it will include information
and training events run in the organization, in some secondary schools, in University, in youth
association or youth centres of the city and in case of big events (festival, meetings etc) in which a
high participation of young people is foreseen.

Moreover, it will not be limited on giving basic information because users will be led also in the
following phases trough a guidance/ counselling service regarding the different opportunities they
have. Main aim of our info-desk is helping the access to useful news about education, work and free
time for people who do not benefit from conventional or formal facilities such as the other public
“youth information desk”.
Within these information activities it will be asked to international volunteers to support the organization’s
staff in the relation with the young people, in the research and distribution of useful information for
young people and to bring a different point of view, based on their concrete experience in the
information and training which will be organised.
There will also be the opportunity to develop a personal project coherent with the principles of the
organization. In the past we had different activities proposed by the volunteers as radio programs,
local researches, inter-cultural events, art crafts workshops...
