Resumo: The city has just over 700,000 inhabitants and the whole metropolitan area is roughly one million inhabitants. In terms of number of inhabitants. It is often referred to as the greenest city in Europe due to the high proportion of well maintained green spaces. The prganization is located near a medical complex. The centre is a 4 storey building, with a capacity to accommodate 24 beneficiaries for a stay between 1 and 3 months. There is a kitchen, laundry room, a room for children activities and an outside playground. There are also offices for social assistances, for medical and psychologist consultation. The Centre operates 24 hours a day because the beneficiaries live there. The centre has 10 permanent staff members and also some local volunteers. The volunteers will work directly with the teacher that is responsible for organising social activities for the beneficiaries and indirectly with the director, all the staff members and volunteers. Volunteers are not allowed to consume alcohol at the hosting project, consuming of drugs is strictly prohibited at all times. The director and the psychologist speak fluent English and the rest of the staff speaks Romanian and Russian. Volunteers will be accommodated in a rented flat or host family. S/he will have his own room and shared kitchen and bathroom.
Perfil: The main recruitment criteria for project candidate are the following:
- sociable, patient, flexible;
- willing to learn the local language;
- able to work independently and in a team, willing to take initiative;
- ready to take into consideration some particularities of victims of trafficking and domestic violence (psychological dispositions);
Tarefas: Volunteers will do their service in the Centre as a person who co-organises the ideas which the beneficiaries realize during the workshops. They will support the implementation of:
- social activities with beneficiaries of the centre: manual work, sport activities, writing workshops, ice-breakers ( for community life), life skills activities ( managing a budget, developing self-confidence, self-knowledge, discussing about values, human rights, communication abilities….), sensitization about AIDS, familial planning;
- accompanying beneficiaries to different places (for juridical procedures, vocational school, shopping….);
- office support for staff;
- implementation of new services in the shelter (library, partnership with sports’ hall);
- cultural excursions (theatre, museum, cinema, events…);
- helping with the surveys (+ analysis of the results.) i.e. evaluation of the quality of the services ;
- preparing events for the local volunteers;
We also allocate time for personal projects for the volunteers who would be interested to lead their own activities with the beneficiaries. Volunteers can also ask for funds for the extra activities. One of the staff members will support them in the implementation of such activities if, of course, its mutually decided that the activities are of benefit. The volunteers tasks will be revised upon their arrival according to the current activities of the organization and motivation and abilities of the volunteer. The activities depend on the gender, age and amount of beneficiaries in the center. Activities performed by the current volunteers are: handcrafts, baking workshops, visits to museums and different kind of excursions, setting up a library, teaching computer skills, playing with children, sport, talking and etc. Volunteers will work from Monday to Friday, from 13:00 till 19:00 with Saturday and Sunday as day off, sometimes they will be asked to work in the week-end days and they can take days off from the working weekdays. Every Friday together with the supervisor volunteers will discuss the activity plan for the next week, volunteers are encouraged to propose their own ideas and activities. The volunteer will benefit from intercultural exchange. By participating in this project, the volunteer will get to know how to teach the children and youth in the organizaton about tolerance and dealing with other people. She/he will give them new inputs and ideas and will be offered an opportunity to get an impression of the work with children and youth from vulnerable background. The volunteer will take part in a series of excursions around Moldova, will get to know Moldovan culture, traditions and language. This can have a big impact on the creation of a positive image of Moldova in Europe and will promote and multiply knowledge of Moldovan heritage.
