Resumo: The Adventure Playground is located in one the second biggest city of the French Community of Belgium (community that includes the regions of Wallonia and Brussels). There are 190 000 inhabitants and almost 450 000 more in its surrounding.

It's an old industrial city that is changing a lot in its adaptation to the 21st century. Well renovated historical areas are mixed with old industrial buildings and very modern architectural projects. The city faces serious problems of unemployment and poverty, but also benefits from a very dynamic cultural life thanks to its various artists and associations. It is located on the border of the river La Meuse, close by the German and the Dutch borders.

The Adventure Playground in itself is a wonderful green area of 8000 m2 located on the top of the city. It is full of grass, trees and sheds build by several generations of children. We have a house in the Playground where we use to organise activities, keep our material and… do the administrative work.

The Playground is only a few hundred meters far away from the city centre, but there are a lot of stairs to go up before to arrive front of our door. It is also possible to reach the Playground by bus. There are several shops and a train station very close by.

Lots of the children who come in the Playground live in its surroundings, but some also come from other parts of the city. They have diverse social origins, some can be very disadvantaged.

Perfil: Our project is open to anybody motivated by volunteering and who wish to be involved in our organisation, regardless to their nationality, religion, believing, diploma, professional experience…

We expect the volunteer to be independent, to propose new ideas and develop activities. We will propose him/her tasks to do, but he/she must be aware that he/she will also have a lot of autonomy in the management of his/her project.

We didn’t define a profile of the volunteer, as we consider that the EVS is a very valuable learning experience that should benefit to anybody. However, due to the nature of our work, it is obviously better that the volunteer likes the social contact and be ready to lead activity sharing a lot of time with children. The work involves also a lot of outdoors activities.

Age: 17-30

Tarefas: During his/her european voluntary service, we hope the volunteer will learn a lot and gain usefull experiences.

To achieve this goal, we offer him/her :

• To integrate a staff of open-minded and motivated youth workers, who enjoy to share their time with young people and will accompany the volunteer in his/her daily tasks.
• To receive a linguistical support in order he/she be able to communicate in French. Several opportunities of French courses are offered. We’ll let the volunteer to choose one. Be aware however that the courses that fit with our economical means, usualy don’t permit to obtain an official certificate. They only must help the volunteer to socialize and to participate in the project.
• To develop knowledge and skills in group dynamic, social awareness and childhood thanks to the participation in the organisation, coordination and leading of activities in the Playground.
• To develop technical and artistic skills

• Quel sera le rôle des volontaires SVE au sein de l'Organisation d'accueil.
The EVS volunteer holds a specific place in our organisation.

His/her role is to be :
• A young person in a learning process. The EVS activity within our organisation must provide the volunteer a space for experimentations and self-development. In that way, we consider the volunteer as any young people who come in the Playground.
• A young person from abroad, and then somebody with a different language, culture, history, from whom we can learn and receive new ideas, opinions, feed-backs about our work, our projects, our habits…
• A volunteer/a member of our team. The volunteer will be with us for several months and we expect that he/she will take his/her place, bring ideas and take initiatives. We also request him/her to be punctual, honest and serious in the achievement of his/her tasks.

• Les activités auxquelles les volontaires pourraient prendre part ainsi que les activités qu'ils pourraient créer au sein de votre organisation. Donnez des exemples d'activités/tâches typiquement destinées aux volontaires.

In our project, the volunteer will be all the time in contact with children and young people. He/she will launch, lead and follow several activities. These ones can be various and will depend of his/her ideas, wishes, skills… They will always suppose a democratic participation of the children who have the right to choose and make proposals.

Usual activities in the Adventure Playground are :
- Artistic workshops : painting, sculptures, theatre…
- Creative/participative workshops : cooking, sewing, handicraft, shed buildings, story telling…
- Games : outdoor games, sport games, table games …
- Outdoor activities : nature discovering, gardening,
- …

The volunteer will also help us in the maintenance of the Playground (small reparations, painting, grass cutting…) and may give a support for some administrative tasks. He/she will also help us when we’ll participate in special events and/or organise punctual projects with other partner organisations: carnival, local feast, shed symposium, international workcamp…

The Playground is open six days in a week : Monday 15-18 pm ; Tuesday 15-18 pm ; Wednesday 13-18 pm; Thursday 15-18pm ; Friday 15-20 pm ; Saturday 10-17pm. During the school holidays, it is open everyday (excepted Sunday) from 10 am to 17 pm.

The volunteer will work 30 hours a week and will have flexible schedule.
