Resumo: The volunteers will work in United Youth’s office situated in an office building which has ensured 24 hour security guard. Thus, the volunteers will have 24/7 access to their workplace, will share the office place with United Youth’s staff, but will have their own office desk, PC, as well as access to phone, internet, printer and scanner. Also, because of the good location of our office, volunteers will have an easy access to different shops, large supermarkets, post office, money exchanges, hospital, pharmacy, restaurants, sporting facilities, theater, cinema, malls, EU info center, and other important services in the city.

The volunteers will be accommodated near to the city center in a sufficiently equipped apartment, where water, electricity, gas, internet, phone etc. will be provided for the whole stay. Furthermore, the accommodation will provide private space for each of them (separate bedroom) and mutual living room, bathroom and kitchen, but also will give a sense of comfort and will meet certain standards to make them safe and fit to live. Besides that, by giving an opportunity to our volunteers to live in a nice neighborhood near to the center of the city, will give them easy access to the main cultural and historical attractions and popular social places, which will help them understand better the local culture, traditional customs and way of living. Next, volunteers will be explained the Macedonian etiquette rules and approaches as to integrate themselves in the community more easily, but also will be introduced to our local volunteers in order to be able to establish quick friendships.

Furthermore, by giving monthly budget to each volunteer for providing goods and services they need for everyday life, will enable developing and applying mathematical thinking in order to solve financial problems in everyday situations while planning and managing their own budget.

Perfil: We are looking for 2 (two) volunteers between 18 - 30 years old, who are self-motivated to participate in non-formal educational processes and who are interested in developing the intercultural dimension by learning, adapting and respecting other culture, regardless of their religious, social or educational background. Next, volunteers should show open attitude and motivation for active involvement in providing help and support for vulnerable groups such as deaf and semi-deaf people, as well as to contribute in improvement of different spheres of the social life, such as promoting peace, tolerance, respect and equality among members in the local community. Thus, volunteers should be responsible persons who will be able to meet their tasks and proposed schedule, but also to fulfill certain criteria, which are essential for success of the EVS project. Given that, the volunteers should be motivated to work efficiently, to be involved in the youth sector and to be interested in intercultural learning. Also, it will be a plus if volunteers are communicative, self-organized and full of ideas, since will be encouraged to put their ideas into practice through organizing different creative workshops, sport and artistic activities, cultural events etc. Other requests: language proficiency (basic level of English will be helpful for the EVS project, but will be also open for young people without previous knowledge of English), educational background and Macedonian language skills will not be required; availability and desire to live in the capital city Skopje in Republic of Macedonia. Finally, during the recruitment process, we will be oriented towards keeping the gender and geographical balance between volunteers. Furthermore, an open call and description of project’s activities will be ensured on time because it is very important for the selection process of the volunteers. Thus, all interested candidates will be asked to send following documents: Curriculum Vitae (with recent picture), Support Letter from their sending organization and Motivation Letter explaining their motivation to come to Macedonia and to take part in the project. Next, Skype interviews with the volunteers will take place, during which they will be asked to write and send an essay (max. one page) about their perception of European youth projects and non-formal education, as an additional document to their application. After, selection process from the all received applications will follow based on discussion between the sending and the coordinating and host organization and in the end, the short listed applicants will be informed about the final decision in written form.

Regarding establishing partnership with a sending organization, we will introduce our EVS project idea through the social networks, but also through e-mails using the database of organizations with which we have already established partnerships on previously developed projects. Based on the profile of organization, experience in the youth field, level etc. of motivation we will make the final decision.

Tarefas: EVS volunteers will be involved in all stages of the project, and will actively participate in the preparation, implementation and evaluation activities. Thus, during the on-arrival training they will receive information about the Youth in Action Programme, Youthpass, the philosophy and procedures regarding EVS Activity life cycle, the concept of being EVS volunteer and the roles of sending, coordinating and hosting organization and the mentor. Also, the principles of non-formal and intercultural learning and communication, as well as their personal motivation, expectations and fears will be discussed. Next, insurance issues and emergency cases will be explained, but also information will be given about the country’s culture, administrative procedures and institutions. Furthermore, during the mid-term evaluation volunteers will have an opportunity to reflect on the organizational aspects, their experiences during the Activity, the integration into the local community, the relation between them and host organization and conflict resolution situations. Besides that, the volunteers will be able to express how they are managing personal challenges and experiencing the life in different country. Next, volunteers will be assigned Mentor who will support and guide them during the whole project, but also will organize regular individual sessions with each of them in order to discuss personal questions and issues.

Given that, the involvement of volunteers will be direct, but facilitated by representatives of the host organization. The methodology used for executing the proposed activities for the volunteers will be mostly non-formal and inspired by the principles and values of the Youth in Action Programme.
The role of the volunteers will be to attend all the meetings, trainings and scheduled activities, and to dedicate their time according to the recommended hours in assisting in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of various activities.

The whole EVS project will be based on raising awareness among the local community about different topics by realizing various public events, but also among the wider public by using social media, such as United Youth’s Facebook page and web-site. Thus, the whole project idea is designed in a way that every month will be dedicated to different topic (e.g. January - Arts & Culture; February - Love & Peace, March - Education; April - Anti-discrimination, xenophobia, racism, stereotypes and prejudices; May - Cultural diversity; June - Environmental protection; July - Healthy lifestyle; August - Human rights; September - Disabilities; October - Nonviolence; November - Democracy; December - Volunteerism) where EVS volunteers will be engaged in activities related to the topic of the month. Given that, on a daily basis they will dedicate 2 hours of their working time doing research in order to gather enough information about the given topic. Besides that, volunteers will be involved in brainstorming activities for execution of the final events (e.g. flash mob, human library, shadow theatre etc.) which will be happening at the end of each month, in order to give them an opportunity to introduce their own ideas with a purpose to influence the local community about the topic in question. Furthermore, every week besides the last one of the month, they will be assigned to execute different activities related to the monthly topic. Hence, the first week they will write articles, the second week will take photographs and the third week will conduct face-to-face surveys with the local citizens supported with videos. The volunteers will spend 5 hours per week for execution of these activities and the final products will be published on United Youth’s Facebook page and web-site for raising awareness not just among locals, but also among the others across Europe.

The final week execution of a public event will take place developed and organized together with the EVS volunteers and our local volunteers. Among these activities, EVS volunteers will spend 2 hours per day doing administrative work at the office where they will assist during execution of everyday activities, such as printing, scanning etc., but also will update United Youth’s FB-page and web-site by searching and sharing relevant information useful for young people in form of videos, articles, open calls for volunteers etc. Besides that, they will be encouraged to search for open calls for project proposals and to work on developing project ideas. Next, 2 hour per week volunteers will attend Macedonian language classes delivered by experienced language teachers.in order to learn the basics of the language which will be of a great help for better integration and communication during their stay. Also, one day per week they will spend 2 hours at the Club for deaf and semi-deaf people where will take active participation in organizing open discussions, creative workshops and other activities related to the topic of the month. But not only that, they will be able to learn the sign language, to break stereotypes and prejudices and to support the inclusion of people with hearing disability into the local community. Next, as part of the proposed activities, once a month volunteers will attend a meeting related to writing articles for a magazine named Voices written by volunteers from another NGO which is also hosting EVS volunteers. Thus, they will have an opportunity to express themselves creatively on a topic of their interest by writing articles which will be published in the monthly edition of the magazine, but also will meet local volunteers and people from other countries who are doing their EVS project in Skopje. Also, during the spring and summer season twice a week the EVS volunteers will participate in outdoor sports activities organized for the local community, such as hiking, jogging, aerobic activities etc. Finally, if there is a possibility volunteers will take participation in projects within the YiA Programme, such as training courses and youth exchanges organized by our organization, since we are constantly working on developing these types of projects within the YiA Programme.

10:00 - 12:00 - Doing research about the monthly topic;
12:00 - 13:00 - Conducting face-to-face surveys;
13:00 - 14:00 - Free time;
14:00 - 16:00 - Administrative work;
16:00 - 17:00 - Macedonian language class.

The main purpose of this project is to set an educational framework, where using the methods of non-formal education youth will have an opportunity to gain new skills, knowledge and personal experiences, but in a same time to face with different intercultural challenges, to expand their horizons, to learn more about themselves and above all to develop in healthy individuals. Besides that, the concrete aim of this project is to contribute in developing solidarity, promoting active citizenship and mutual understanding among youth, supporting mobility, active social participation, personal and professional development, as well as to give knowledge about the European values. Furthermore, taking into consideration that volunteerism not only enables volunteers to learn through practice, also has many other positive effects, actually contributes to development of the local community and the society at large. Thus, the abovementioned activities are carefully designed with a purpose volunteers to gain new skills and experiences, as well as to develop and/or enhance the 8 (eight) competencies proposed by this Programme (Communication in the mother tongue, Communication in foreign languages, Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology, Digital competence, Learning to learn, Social and civic competence, Sense of initiative and entrepreneurship, Cultural awareness and expression), which represent key factor for successful realization of an EVS project. Next, working in a multicultural environment and participating in intercultural evenings where EVS volunteers from other organizations will be invited to attend and present the history and traditional values of their countries will also contribute to multicultural learning. Also, they will be able to increase their tolerance towards different cultures by learning and accepting cultural differences. Furthermore, the previously elaborated activities in which the volunteers will be actively involved during 12 (twelve) months, will give them an opportunity to implement the skills and knowledge they have gained, but also to accept new challenges imposed by the society, in the spirit of European citizenship. Besides that, the direct involvement of the volunteers in organizing and realizing different activities, such as creative workshops at the Club for deaf and semi-deaf people will contribute to getting new experiences, as well as in learning how to work with such vulnerable target group. Giving them that opportunity, we are aiming to raise awareness among the volunteers about people with disabilities in order to understand that all people no matter of their backgrounds (people with disabilities, fewer opportunities, minorities, etc.) should be reminded that they are as well entitled of human rights and should enjoy them. Also, learning the sign language during the classes, as a tool for nonverbal communication will enable volunteers to approach the people with hearing disability more easily, but also will contribute to their faster inclusion into the silent world.
At the very end of the project, each volunteer will receive its Youthpass Certificate and will be able to reflect and evaluate the whole process of non-formal learning based on what he/she learned and which skills he/she developed during the EVS Activity. Furthermore, the Certificate itself represents an instrument which ensures greater visibility and valorisation of the gained experience and knowledge arisen from the volunteering in a foreign country. Thus, together with the Mentor, the volunteer will have an opportunity to describe all activities and tasks realized during the project and to reflect on the competencies gained during that process

Horário: Thus, volunteers will be involved in same activities and will work 35 hours per week (7 hours per day) from 09:00 - 17:00 with one hour free time, except for one day when they will work from 11:00 - 15:00 and from 19:00 - 21:00. Mainly they will work from Monday to Friday and will have 2 days off, but if needed will be asked to work on weekends and to have days off on working days because some events might be scheduled on weekends.
