Resumo: The host organization started hosting EVS volunteers in 2001, so now has over 11 years of experience in both hosting long term volunteers, and in the past sending short term volunteers.

The idea of involving EVS Volunteers is that we feel they add a new dimension to the programmes, and also offer a new element to our service delivery to disadvantaged young people here in the UK.

Including an EVS element to our projects is exciting as the volunteers work with young people who have usually had very little contact with people from other parts of Europe. Our EVS volunteers bring a cultural dimension to the project, which offers young people a small taste of what could lie outside their home-town. We hope the new languages, foods, cultures and ideas that the volunteers bring will encourage the young people to think about options outside of the UK.

We feel that our EVS volunteers can offer something to the young people that staff cannot as an intermediary. It is an ideal opportunity for a volunteer to gain some ‘hands on’ work experience with this group which will include an in-depth knowledge of the UK’s social work system.

This application is because we would like to expand our involvement with EVS to our Manchester region particularly our young people’s accommodation service, which comprises hostel accommodation and visiting support to vulnerable young people living in their own tenancies. This will also enable the growth of our capacity to provide support and enriching opportunities to vulnerable young people within our accommodation services.

We currently receive between 50 to 100 applicants for each of our current 9 placements, so the addition of our Manchester region will provide more opportunities for European volunteers to work with us.

Perfil: Age: 18-30

Tarefas: The organization works with up to 43 young people aged 16-23 in a variety of settings. We have three supported accommodation projects, one 24 hour service for high support young people who have a mix of issues, and two lower support projects that offer visiting support. We have a supported lodgings scheme and also Nightstop project as well as soon offering shared flats within the community.

We anticipate the EVS volunteer will be able to get involved within all aspects of the organization, initially shadowing and observing staff to carrying out participation sessions with young people, supporting them to college / GP appointments and many other tasks once they feel happy and confident with the young people.
